Restorative Practices

At St Mary’s, our approach to Restorative Practices shapes the way we treat each other, solve problems, and keep our school community strong. It’s how we build a space where everyone feels respected, safe and connected.

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been reminding students what it means to Be Safe – whether that’s moving calmly through the school, heading to class when the music starts, lining up respectfully, or playing safely outside. It also includes being safe when we’re out in the community, travelling to and from school, or representing St Mary’s at events.

When we think about this in light of our restorative practices, we’re not just talking about rules – we’re talking about how our choices impact others. If something goes wrong, we slow down, check in, and ask:

– What happened?

– Who’s been affected?

– What needs to happen next?

It’s all about keeping relationships strong and learning from the everyday moments – the big ones and the small ones.

Thanks for helping us keep this message going at home too. The more we talk about safety and respect, the more it becomes part of who we are – wherever we go.
