Principal's Message
Student Leadership at BNPS
Schools work best when students have a strong and authentic voice. This week we are launching our student leadership program for 2025, with the direct aim of enabling this voice.
This year our Grade 6 students can apply to be leaders in:
- Literacy
- School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports (SWPBS)
- Italiano
- Music
- Art
- Physical Education
Students are asked to write applications for these positions, with leaders appointed by merit.
In addition, each class from Grade 1-6 will have a nominated Junior School Council (JSC) and Green Team representative. These positions are voted by their peers. JSC work to improve the student experience in our school, recent examples of their work being the new oval timetable and the play markings on the asphalt near blue park playground. Green Team provide student action towards sustainability initiatives, an example being their work in supporting the open streets program on Westbourne st in 2024.
Students from Grades 5 & 6 can also join our Inclusion Action Team, who work to continually ensure we are providing an inclusive and safe environment for all students in our school.
We know our students thrive when given leadership responsibilities, and our school benefits. We are proud to have students who are excited to contribute to our community. I encourage you to speak with your child/ren about these opportunities and support them to apply.
Pop ups
Our lunchtime pop-up program has grown to become an important part of wellbeing and engagement at BNPS. Twice a week, various students run a pop-up at recess or lunch, teaching their peers about a particular passion or skill they have. Puppets, footy, drawing, Danny-Go and board games have been on the agenda, with chess, gymnastics and soccer coming up. Each Term we receive around forty submissions from students wanting to run a pop-up, which is a testament to the engagement our students have with school and each other.
Parent teacher interviews
Thank you all for attending our parent teacher interviews this week. These conversations are invaluable in building the relationship between families and school. Teachers gain valuable insights into how they can support students to achieve, and we hope you are able to gain insight into your child's development and progression academically, socially and emotionally. If you have further questions or concerns throughout the school year, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher, a member of school leadership or the wellbeing team. We are here to work next to you to and welcome this communication. When we work in partnership like this, we always improve outcomes for students.
