What will I learn?

Sports, Exercise and Health Science is a Group 4 Science subject, primarily concerned with the scientific study of human physiology, biomechanics and psychology. Scientists working in these fields attempt to make sense of human physical and mental health and performance through a variety of approaches and techniques, controlled experimentation, and collaboration with other researchers. The course is organised under three main themes: exercise physiology, biomechanics and sports psychology. These themes are distinct, but also share many overlapping features; studying the similarities and connections between them is a central component of the course. The course is available in both Standard Level (120 hours) and High Level (240 hours) options.

Why should I consider this course?

If you are student who has an interest in inquiry, the SEHS course would provide you with the opportunity to delve into complex concepts and issues in the health and fitness field. Further to the commonly accepted factors that affect sporting performance -  anatomy, psychology and skill acquisition - you will have the opportunity to explore ethical and socio-cultural issues related to sport. As a Group 4 subject, SEHS provides a hands-on way to fulfil the IB requirement of a Science subject.
