🌟 Term 4 Wellbeing – End-of-Year Greeting 🌟
Dear families,
As we wrap up Term 4, I’d love to share a warm thank-you and a little snapshot of what your children have been doing in Wellbeing over the final few weeks. It has been a wonderful year. I have absolutely loved working with your children and supporting them in building confidence, kindness, and resilience.
These last few weeks have been all about transition, celebration, and helping students feel settled and ready for their next steps.
🌼 Preps: Getting Ready for Grade 1
Our Prep students have been doing beautiful work around transition. They’ve been reflecting on their year, preparing for Grade 1, and creating “backpack drawings” and messages for next year’s teachers. These activities help them feel proud, confident, and excited about the move ahead.
🌱 Grades 1–2: Welcoming the New Preps & Preparing for 2026
Our Grade 1/2 students have been creating delightful welcome posters and messages for the current Preps, helping them feel excited about joining the Year 1 cohort. Alongside this, students have been preparing their own “About Me” pieces for their new teachers, thinking about how they learn and what helps them thrive.
🌿 Grades 3–4: Welcoming Next Year’s Grade 2s & Learning World 2
Students in Grades 3 and 4 have been very thoughtful as they prepare welcome posters for the current Grade 2s, who will be joining the Learning World 2 team next year. They’ve done a brilliant job of thinking about what younger students might need to know about routines, friendships, and favourite learning activities, and of presenting it in a friendly, reassuring way. They have also completed their own transition information for their 2026 teachers to support a smooth start next year.
🎓 Grade 6: Preparing for Secondary School
Our Grade 6 students have been busy preparing for Year 7 with a blend of reflection, practical planning, and emotional readiness activities. A major highlight was our sound bath and mindfulness session with Susan, a calming, grounding experience that students loved and took a lot from.
💛 Leadership & Kindness (Grade 5/6)
Grade 5 students have spent time exploring what leadership means with or without a badge. They revisited and reflected on our Newlands Leadership Contract and began proposing ideas for a refreshed 2026 version, centred on kindness, responsibility, and being positive role models for younger years.
🌈 Whole-School Wellbeing Themes
Throughout these final weeks, all year levels have continued to build on key wellbeing foundations, including:
- emotional literacy
- problem-solving and conflict resolution
- kindness, compassion, and teamwork
- inclusive friendships
- responsibility and positive choices
- “tracking the speaker”
calming and self-regulation strategies
We’ve also completed the remaining components of the Respectful Relationships & Sexuality Education curriculum, with most core learning completed earlier in Term 3.
Thank you, families, for your ongoing support throughout the year. Your children have shown such curiosity, courage, and compassion, and it has been a privilege to guide them through their wellbeing journey in 2025.
Wishing you all a restful, joyful holiday and a bright start to 2026.
Warmly,
Sra Karren
