Shark Tank

We began learning about economics, which eventually led to an exploration of business concepts. During this unit, we discovered that starting a business requires many qualities, such as dedication and the ability to collaborate effectively with others. In week 6, we commenced the Shark Tank project, where we formed groups of four to five students to develop business ideas. Shark Tank is part of our business and economics unit, and it provided a fun and engaging way to explore new concepts. Working in groups allowed us to be creative and learn about social entrepreneurship. The highlights of the Shark Tank experience included collaborating with our team, compromising when we had different opinions and most importantly, getting to know our peers and learning new skills.

Economics Incursion

On October 10th, we participated in an Economics incursion held in the shared area. The session focused on teaching us about different aspects of running a business. During the incursion, we learned about banking, fluctuations in prices, and gained a broader understanding of economics. A highlight of the experience was a Lego activity, where the objective was to build as many Lego items as possible and ship them to the city, beach, or mountain to maximize profit. In this activity, we took on roles such as builders, brick collectors, and buyers. It was a fun incursion!

Sports Day

Sports Day was held on Friday, 7th November, at Ross Reserve. It is an exciting annual event featuring the four school houses: Green, Blue, Yellow, and Red. This year, congratulations to Green House for finishing in 1st place, and well done to all the other houses for their efforts throughout the day. One of the major highlights was the Year 6 championship races, which were 400 metres long. Kester Ewing and Mackenzie Webster both achieved victories in their Year 6 events, nearly breaking long-standing school records! In my opinion, SJV has the best Sports Day of all because it truly brings the entire community together. From teacher races to parent races and even adorable toddler races, everyone has the opportunity to join in the fun, and that’s what makes our school such a welcoming and special place.

Kindergarten visit

On Friday, 31st October, the Year 5 students visited Wellington Kindergarten. Instead of taking a bus, we walked there, which took approximately 20 minutes. We spent about an hour playing with the Kindergarten children, during which we taught them various games. Some of the games we played included musical chairs, hide and seek, silent ball, and others. We had an extraordinary time with the kindergarten kids, and they thoroughly enjoyed our activities. The highlight of the event was seeing their smiles and witnessing them have fun and enjoy their time with us.

Indonesian Day

Indonesian Day was held on October 29th, 2025, which was a Wednesday and also Ava's birthday in 5/6N. The event featured a variety of activities, such as Face Painting, Sepak Takraw (Soccer Volleyball), and Badminton. It took place at school in different locations, including the Front and Back Basketball Courts, the Fake Grass area, and the Oval. Indonesian Day was an incredible experience, everyone had a lot of fun, and it was a wonderful day for all. It was the best Indonesian Day our seniors have had in seven years. The main highlight was everyone enjoying themselves- playing games, getting face paint, and winning prizes in the raffle. Eight people managed to win prizes from Pak Kris.

Leadership Program

The leadership program is designed for Year 5 students. It aims to teach them how to serve as positive role models for the younger students. This program supports students in developing skills such as problem-solving and understanding what it means to be a responsible leader. It helps Year 5 students learn how to take on leadership roles and responsibilities as older students. Lastly, it teaches us resilience, if students do not secure a leadership role, they learn how to bounce back and continue to be role models and positive examples for younger students. Overall, the program prepares us on how to be leaders for next year.
