PBL
At SFS, our PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning) school wide expectations are:
Respect,
Responsibility and
Kindness
This week in PBL we focused on KINDNESS: Be thoughtful of others. This was to lead up to our Multicultural day next week. The children understand that we do not accept racism at SFS as we believe in the dignity of the human person as we are all created in the image of God. We discussed ways to show an interest in other people’s cultural backgrounds and they learnt about the cultural diversity of their classmates.
Here are some of our lucky PBL winners who have been demonstrating our school expected behaviours.
And this week we have an extra PBL kindness winner awarded to our beautiful Viv in the office.
Viv is kind and helpful to the staff when they come to the office looking for something!
Multicultural Celebration Morning
We will be celebrating our diverse cultural backgrounds at school on Wednesday November 26th at SFS.
We will have a special assembly in the hall at 9am lead by the Specialist team with performances from students celebrating different cultural backgrounds.
If any parents and siblings would like to perform a song, dance, play an instrument or other cultural piece with their children, please contact me rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au
We would love to start with a procession of flags, if you have a flag on a flag pole from your cultural background, please drop it off at the school office before this day so we can include this in the celebration.
The students are invited to wear clothes to represent their cultural background and we invite families attending to also dress in cultural clothes and bring along a plate of food from your cultural background to share with the other parents and family members attending.
After the assembly, you will be invited into the learning spaces with your children to participate in a fun cultural activity then return back to the hall for Morning tea (not with the students) at 11 am.
SRC News
Our SRC reps met with me on Monday afternoon this week. We heard an update about 2 of the projects some of our Senior SRC reps have been working on this term.
Rania (LS 1 Seniors) has been running a weekly book club. She makes announcements, she has made morning gathering slides to let kids know the author and when it is on. The children are advised which author is the focus of the week and children are asked to bring along their favourite book by the author to discuss. Rania has organised this with Jo and Jasna
Shiv, another LS 1 Senior student, has organised a weekly lunchtime Chess competition. He organised sign up sheets for students then the students were put into fair teams of 3 or 4 to complete against each other, with 4 teams competing. The final game occurred on Wednesday this week between “The Blundering Bishops” and the “Pawn pushers”.
Well done to these 2 students for showing initiative and organsing these activities. We get feedback from students all the time that they would like more lunch time clubs and these 2 activities have provided more fun opportunities for SFS students.
Here are some of our SRC reps this week working hard on projects during our meeting. The students have been also focusing on how to spread KINDNESS around SFS this term.
