Congratulations to Ian McKenzie and Brad Ralston who have been recognised for their contribution to sport at the College:
MCC Service to Sport - Ian McKenzie
Ian’s dedication to school sport - particularly hockey - has been nothing short of exceptional. His long-standing involvement in organising and running school hockey competitions, as well as coaching teams, has left a lasting impact on countless students. When Tamworth hosted the CCC Hockey Carnival, Ian was instrumental in coordinating and managing the entire event across several days. He not only selected, coached, and trained teams for CCC carnivals at various venues, but also led representative selections across Catholic schools in Sydney, taking boys’ teams on multiple tours to New Zealand. His commitment to organising, training, and coaching over many years has enriched opportunities for so many young athletes.
Beyond hockey, Ian served as PDHPE Coordinator, where he expertly organised school and Diocesan swimming and athletics carnivals. Each year, he also coordinated and ran Jump Rope for Heart, supporting the Heart Foundation in a cause that holds deep significance for the Tamworth community.
Ian has been an integral leader in Outdoor Education, guiding students at Lynchwood, Warrabah National Park, Lake Keepit, and on Year 7 and Year 9 school camps. His reliability extended even further as he regularly drove the bus for countless sporting trips, especially in recent years.
Ian’s unwavering support for all sports and PE programs, combined with his willingness to step in whenever needed, has made him an invaluable and much-respected member of the school community. His enthusiasm, leadership, and commitment have truly made a difference.
In more recent years Ian has driven the bus and supported our students on NSW CCC Basketball trips to Sydney as well as many Armidale Diocesan, hockey, soccer, rugby, swimming, athletics and cross country events where he has served as an official, selector and coach.
MCC Volunteer Award - Brad Ralston
Over the last couple of years Brad has done an amazing job with both the year 7/8 and year 9/10 boys Diocese and NSW CCC Basketball teams. Brad has run regular training sessions with the boys throughout the season. His expert coaching and time spent developing the boys skills and teamwork has led to outstanding results. He has dedicated a lot of his spare time to also travel with the team to Sydney for the NSW CCC Championships. Brad is also a high level coach of the Junior Thunderbolts basketball team and his professional approach and use of tactics and strategies have been invaluable to the team. Brad is a highly respected coach and he has developed a great relationship with the players where he has instilled the values of sportsmanship, hard work and fair play. Thank you Brad for all the time, effort and service you have provided for our students.
A big thank you to staff, students, volunteers, and parents/caregivers for their support of sport over the 2025 year. Well done on all the outstanding achievements and I look forward to another great year in 2026.
Lastly a big thank you to all the students who helped out refereeing/umpiring and doing jobs at the Diocese Sport gala days, carnivals as well as the St Nicholas, St Edwards and St Josephs Athletics Carnivals. The leadership, support and strengthening the connection to our primary school students was invaluable.
