Grade 4 Griffin
Welcome to our Grade Four update for the term.
In literacy we have completed our first novel, Uncle Xbox. This Novel was about Dusty who loves playing online games, usually with his stepdad. One morning, his stepdad packs up and leaves, taking his Xbox with him. Dusty really wants to get his own Xbox, so he tries different small jobs to earn money, but nothing works out quite right. Just then, his cool Uncle Rick shows up and introduces Dusty to surfing. Uncle Rick also teaches him about different cultures and his homeland. Through these new experiences, Dusty quickly realises that there's more to life than just gaming.
We have learnt a lot from Dusty and here are a few of our insightful findings -
Our writing was focused around our novel as we wrote a factual recount on ‘The Impacts of Colonisation on the First Nations People’. A factual recount is written in chronological order and retells a series of events. We really enjoyed researching and learning about this part of Australian History.
Maths has been very busy this term as well, we have worked on decimals, length and area and we are now learning and sharpening our skills about 2D shapes.
At first we found decimals a little bit tricky but as our learning moved along and we discovered that decimals are parts of a number not a whole number, it became easier for us and we are now maths wizards of tenths and hundredths.
We enjoyed using all the different types of measuring equipment (rulers, measuring tapes and trundle wheels) to measure various items in and out of the classroom.
We have just completed our Religion unit of ‘Celebrating the Gifts of the Spirit’. In this unit we learnt about the meaning of Pentecost and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit that we all have and how to use them to make our world a much kinder place.
We look forward to the rest of this term, as we have so much still to learn.
