5/6 Concept: One Health Heroes!

At the start of Term 2, 5/6 students have been learning about the health of our environment within GTAC (Gene

Technology Access Centre).

We have been answering questions like… Are there natural or unnatural sounds in our school? Are the water bugs that live in the waterway sensitive to water pollution? How much will it rain per day compared to past averages? And what is the quality of the water and soil in the local environment?

We learnt how to use microscopes in our first 2 lessons, and have been looking at how acidic, neutral or how biodiversity the water is; or is it clean or dirty? In microscopes we have been trying to find microorganisms in our local waters. There are tons of micro-organism that's why we shouldn't drink it. We also learnt how to calculate the average of the scores of how biodiverse the local water. We used equipment specific to look at how biodiversity, acidic and natural the waters are.

In our previous lessons, we have been prompting HIVE questions (How can (someone), Involved- who is Involved? Verb- what are they trying to do? Event- what does the action apply to?) To solve our questions we either built prototypes, or made posters, made videos, made podcasts, made websites, or made flyers.
