Principal's Page

Dear Families,

Next week is the half way point of Term Two, and it's been wonderful to see our school community deeply engaged in daily routines

and rich, purposeful learning. Classrooms are alive with curiosity and enthusiasm as students explore new concepts, build skills and support one another in their learning journeys.

We're proud of the progress our students are making and grateful for the strong partnerships between home and school that help support each child's growth. As we move into the second half of the term, we look forward to continued learning, collaboration and community spirit.

Parenting in Today's World

Next Monday 26th May at 5:30pm, Doug  Bailey, who worked with staff last year from Berry Street Education, will be facilitating a session on Positive Parenting. Building stronger parent-child relationships, promoting positive discipline techniques, empowering parents with evidence -based tools and adapting parenting to modern challenges will be some of the topics Doug will be covering in his presentation.

He will share some tips and tricks and allow parents to ask questions. To allow as many parents to attend as possible, we are inviting students along to play games and have a sausage in bread. An Operoo will be sent out later today with more details.

St Joseph's Award

The St Joseph's Award was presented to Eddie Schmitt at our last whole school assembly. The award is presented to students who consistently display our school values and behaviour expectations.

Fun Food Friday

This Friday the Student Action Team will be selling party pies and sausage rolls for $1:00 each this coming Friday. Students will need to bring their money in a named envelope this Wednesday so that party pies and sausage rolls can be ordered for Friday.

Mitch Tambo Incursion

All students enjoyed a performance by Mitch Tambo this afternoon. He plays the didgeridoo, is a traditional indigenous dancer and singer, who was a contestant on Australia's Got Talent in 2019.  The I Am Me Youth Tour is all about identity, celebrating self and lifting up the next generation through music, culture, and storytelling. It is linked to the students' Faith Based Inquiry history unit of learning.

We will be acknowledging National Reconciliation Week 27th May - 3rd June . The theme this year is "Bridging now to next."

We celebrate this week as a commitment to the 11 Child Safety Standards. The first standard directs organisations to establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.

School Cross Country Carnival

It was wonderful to see full participation from all our students at the whole school Cross Country Carnival. It was pleasing to note many examples of sportsmanship and cheering for others. Thank you to Jenny Todd, parent volunteers and staff who assisted on the day. Congratulations to Mazenod for winning the carnival.

Mother's Day Breakfast

Thank you to Jess Lumsden, Hope and Meesha for organising the wonderful Mother's Day Breakfast. Thank you to Rose, Meesha and the following businesses for their generous contributions: Store 360, Red Hill Bakery, Baked In Sorrento, Marlo Spa, Ocean Fitness,

School Closure Day

Yesterday staff attended professional learning facilitated by Educational Consultant Glen Pearsall. Staff explored strategies to enhance student engagement and develop positive learning behaviours.

World Bee Day

Today is World Bee Day. Thank you to our Sustainability teacher Jane Byrne for organising activities to raise awareness of the importance of bees in our world. An interesting fact is that for every 4 mouthfuls of food we consume, 3 have been pollinated by bees.

Thank you Louise and Angela for the Honey Joys.

Pope Leo XIV

Cardinal Robert Prevost, the Chicago-born prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops under Pope Francis, has been elected the 267th pope, taking the name Pope Leo XIV. The 69-year-old is the first North American to be elected pope. Pope Leo's first words to the crowd at St Peter's were: 'Peace be with you. My dear brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the risen Christ, the good shepherd who gave his life for God’s flock', he said, praying that Christ’s peace would enter people’s hearts, their families and 'the whole earth'. The peace of the risen Lord, he said, is 'a peace that is unarmed and disarming'.Signalling strong continuity with the papacy of Pope Francis, Pope Leo told the crowd that God 'loves all of us unconditionally'and that the Church must be open to everyone.
