Hello Year  3/4 families,

We are thrilled to announce a very special event for our Year 3/4 students – an Author Talk by Andy Griffiths on Wednesday 25th of June, 2025. Andy is one of Australia’s most popular children’s authors with New York Times bestsellers including The Treehouse Series. This engaging event links directly to the Victorian Curriculum and will support our students in:

  • Exploring language features, structure and purpose in imaginative texts
  • Developing their creative writing skills
  • Enhancing their speaking and listening skills in group settings.

This event is free however a gold coin donation would be appreciated on the day with all proceeds going directly to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation of which Andy Griffiths’ is an ambassador for.

Fortnightly Curriculum Focus:

Literacy: In Reading, we are reviewing a book we have read, explaining why it is/isn’t a good book to read. We will include relevant information about the book and publish the book review to inform others about it.

In Writing, we will be continuing to use a plot scaffold to write a narrative following the 6+ traits of Writing. We are focusing on recognising where capitals letter, full stops and quotation marks are to be used in writing and using this to edit our own writing.

Numeracy:  Time: We are learning to read and interpret analogue clocks so we can tell the time to the hour, half hour, and to the nearest minute. We are learning to understand and tell time using quarter past and quarter to on an analogue clock.

Inquiry: This term our Inquiry question is ‘What was life like for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Australia before and after European settlement?’ We will be learning about the important contributions they have made to Australia and focusing on the concept of ‘Change Makers’. We have learnt about the importance of astronomy and the dreamtime for The First Australians and Torres Strait islander people, the history and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, including their migration to Australia, different tribal groups, and the many languages they speak. We have also learnt about the traditional food, hunting, and gathering practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and how they compare to the ways we get our food today. In the following weeks we will learn about housing, clothing, fires (cold burning) and weapons & tools.

Child wise/Respectful Relationships:   Evaluating problem solving strategies. We will develop an understanding that different problems can require different types of problem-solving strategies. We will identify a range of strategies they use to solve problems. We will evaluate strategies to see if they are effective for the problem
