The Stand Up Project - What’s Next?

Last Wednesday, May 21st the 5/6 students all spent the morning with Liam from The Stand Up Project. He delighted us all with a fabulous presentation about how to be upstanders in our daily lives, and ways we can reduce bullying in our school community. Liam then sent the students away with the confidence to stand up for what is right and fair. When asked the question, “Who would like to be our Stand Up Student Leaders for 2025?”, close to 90 students put their hands up. That was an overwhelming and impressive response, and it was immensely difficult to select the official number of 40!

Those 40 students now have important work to do. These leaders will present to the staff, the parent community, and then teach the 3/4 students over a number of lessons the key skills and messages of the program. Anna Swan will work with the leaders, but ultimately it is a student program which is built on student voice, agency and leadership. These Willy Kids have already spent time together, sorting themselves into groups, brainstorming ideas and sharing their own stories, hopes and goals for the program.

Half these student leaders will present to the staff on Monday 16th June (3:45pm-4:45pm), and the other half will present to the parents on Thursday 26th June (6pm-7pm). Look out for more information coming soon regarding the parent information evening.

We are incredibly proud of all our 5/6 students and know that even if they are not official SUP leaders, they play an integral part in creating a safe and happy environment for all Willy Kids.
