Visual Art

Grade Prep’s have completed their Frida Kahlo headdresses, these are now on display in the office and Frida is looking fabulous!!!! We are currently working on our Frida dolls and cutting skills. Students are creating gorgeous colourful layers using a fringing technique. I’ve included some progress photos and can’t wait to finish these off ready to display.

Grade 1/2’s have nearly completed their oil pastel self-portraits and a small selection have been put on display in the office area. The Grade 1’s are now creating some Frida dolls using decorated layers of patty pans. We have looked at the colourful Mexican fashion worn by Frida and have tried to incorporate that into our designs. The Grade 2’s have moved onto ‘still life’ sketches of fruit bowls which we will colour using water colour pencils. They did an amazing job on these and I can’t wait to see them completed.

Grade 3/4’s are finishing up their watercolour self-portraits by adding a brick wall background. We looked at the patterns in brick formation and how to colour them using shading. These really turned out so well and everyone did their best to capture their likeness from the photo they took of themselves.

The Grade 5/6’s are on the last stages of their mono chromatic self-portraits. The detail included is so intricate and the students have really tried hard to incorporate shade and contrast using a monochromatic theme. This is one of their assessment tasks for term 2 and all their work is on the Visual Art Google Classroom platform. You can view it on your child’s Ipad.

Art Club

Over the last couple of weeks, the Art Club and a few volunteers have created this amazing poster for Reconciliation Week. This is on display in the office for this week.

Art Club is a new activity which has started this year. Various year levels will have a turn to volunteer each term. The schedule for 2025 will be as follows:

Term 1

Term 2

Term 3

Term 4

Grade 5/6 – 5x7 Art Competition

Grade 3/4 – Frida Displays & Seaside Fair Preparations

Grade 1/2 - Seaside Fair Preparations

Grade Preps - Seaside Fair Preparations & Christmas

In Art Club, students made a variety of 3D, layered coloured flowers which were added to our oversized Frida Kahlo portrait. This is now up in the foyer of the office.

Art smocks

Just a reminder to bring in your Art smocks. Please hand them into your classroom teacher for storage. I recommend an old, oversized t-shirt or shirt with your child’s name on it.

Warm Regards,

Performimg Arts

The Curriculum Focus in Performing Arts

Year 1: Students have been learning about call and response in music. They have continued playing familiar melodies on the keyboard and marimbas by themselves and together with the class.

Year 2: Students are continuing to learn songs based around a C major scale and the solfege method. The latest song they have played on the instruments has been “Ebeneezer Sneezer” by Canadian children's music performer Fred Penner.

Grade 3/4 – Students have spent time finishing the sea shanty they have created. They have rehearsed their songs and presented them to the class and made responses about which shanty stood out to them. Students have continued working through the melody or chords for “The Wellerman” on the keyboard.

Grade 5/6 – Students have continued learning about chord playing and patterns in songs on the keyboard and marimbas. They have recently played “Sweet Caroline” that uses 3 chords and “The Nights” that is based on a 4 chord pattern.

Sports Update

We’re now in the final stretch of the Grade 5/6 Interschool Sport Winter Season, with just two rounds to go! Our students have shown fantastic effort, commitment, and sportsmanship throughout the term, representing Willy Primary with pride in sports including AFL, soccer, netball, softball, and hockey.

We wish all teams the very best of luck for these last two weeks and congratulate everyone on a brilliant season so far. You've done us proud!

LOTE (French)

BRAVO Classe 3/4T!!

A great shout out to this class for their recent stellar work in French. As a cohort, Year 3/4s have been focussing heavily on establishing and maintaining clear classroom expectations in order to enhance positive classroom communication skills for optimal results. In the last two weeks, 3/4T has come out on top of their cohort with a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ that made our learning time together perfectly blissful.

As a teacher, you get to recognise a great learning session by the relaxed and at ease look on students’ faces, the amount of hands continuously going up and the flawless harmonious pace of the session with a ‘what, class is already over? But it went so fast!!!’ to top it all off at the end of it. That is exactly what we strive for at Willy, so:

FELICITATIONS 3/4T!!!

(Congratulations)
