The Big Freeze

Northcote High Freezes for a Cause
On Friday 6th June, Northcote High School braved the chill for an important cause,
hosting our very own Big Freeze fundraiser to support FightMND and help beat the beast that is Motor Neurone Disease.
MND is a progressive and devastating illness that affects a person’s ability to move, speak, eat, and eventually breathe. On a cold and cloudy 11-degree day, our school community came together to support the cause with determination and good humour.
The crowd cheered as our courageous staff members, Michael Waiser, Paul-Micha Sullivan, and Erin Gogerly, were dunked into icy water, all in the name of raising awareness and funds. The event was superbly hosted by our MC and proud parent, Bob Murphy, who kept energy high and the show running smoothly.
We were honoured to welcome representatives from FightMND and local MP Kat Theophanous, who joined us to witness the fun and share in the message of hope and determination.
A huge thank you to Nelson Alexander Northcote, whose generous sponsorship helped bring the event to life. And, of course, thank you to our incredible school community—students, staff, families, and friends, whose enthusiasm and donations brought us to a grand fundraising total of $4,893.
Together, we’ve shown that even in the cold, Northcote’s heart beats strong for a cure.
