Melbourne Design Week

As part of Melbourne Design Week, our Year 11 Product Design class had the chance to visit two incredible exhibitions: the Cybernetic Futures Showcase at the University of Melbourne and Wurrdha Marra – First Nations Art & Design at the NGV.

At the Cybernetic Futures exhibition, we explored all kinds of creative prototypes—from interactive board games and virtual/mixed reality experiences to artworks that made us think differently about technology and how we use it. The projects, created by university students studying interaction and game design, gave us a glimpse into future-focused systems and the imaginative worlds they might create.

What stood out most was how engaging the experience was. We got to talk with other students, interact with the models, and reflect on how we might apply similar thinking in our own work. It really got us thinking differently about our designs back in the workshop and helped us connect more deeply with the ideas we’re learning in class.

At Wurrdha Marra – First Nations Art & Design we looked at a range of designed objects and innovations from First Nations people this was a great introduction to our next unit of work.
