Division Cross Country

Division Cross Country was held on May 20 at Bundoora Park. With a team of 85 Students, we were the largest school to compete on the day. In each age group, the top 15 runners progress through to the Regional Round which is being held in Kilmore on June 18. Our students had a fantastic day out, with 63 now qualified to compete at Regionals. Congratulations to all who competed at Division and those who are running at Kilmore, we wish you well.

Yr 9/10 Soccer

On the 22nd of may, the year 9/10 girls soccer team went out to play division soccer at DISC. the girls performed well throughout the whole day and kept their team morale high. The girls won their first game 10-0 against Lalor North with Isla and Finlay having some great finishes upfront. The second game was another easier game for the girls, with a 7-0 win against Lalor secondary. Asia and Kitty showed great chemistry on the pitch throughout the day, but it was very evident in our last game where we beat Preston 2-1 which secured us a spot in the final against Thornbury. Everyone knew that Thornbury were going to be a tough team to beat as they were also undefeated through the whole day, however, the girls didn’t let the pressure get to them and held their heads high. We were down 1-0, but a long ball up the pitch from georgia helped us get back to 1-1. we fought out a strong second half but it just wasn’t enough to get another goal. this meant we had to go to penalties. It got to the last kick of penalties were all we needed was save or a miss to win. A massive shoutout to Cleo who made the final save of the game who secured our spot into the next stage, regionals. We can’t wait to see the girls work their magic again and hopefully secure a spot into state.

Yr 9/10 AFL

Our Intermediate Boys Football team put on an outstanding display at their recent competition day, going undefeated in every match. The boys showed exceptional teamwork, grit, and skill from the first bounce to the final siren.

The group’s hard work and positive attitude have earned them a well-deserved spot at Regionals, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what they can achieve next. Well done, team – let’s keep the momentum going!

On Monday the 26th of May we played at C.T. Barling Reserve. We started off playing Lalor who were a great team but were down on players so we had people from our team filling in, showing great sportsmanship. We then played Preston and then Thornbury winning all our games with no teams scoring a single point against us. Everyone played really well and showed their respect to all teams and teammates. In the end it was a great day, and we can’t wait to play at regionals.

Yr 9/10 Badminton

Well done to our year 9/10 Badminton teams who played in the Division Competition at Darebin Community Sports Stadium on May 26. All of our teams had a great time and had some very competitive games throughout the day against Thornbury, William Ruthven, Reservoir and Preston.

Senior Netball

Northcote’s senior netball team had a great success at the comp, winning 2 out of our 3 games! A big thanks and congrats to the team for playing so well, and working fluidly as a team, even in positions we were less familiar with (shoutout to Claire, Lily and Nadia scoring.) We all had a great time and even played an extra scrap match to get our full day’s worth of netball. Three, two, one, Northcote!

Senior Division Table Tennis

Year 11/12 Mixed Divisional Table Tennis - Wednesday 28th May played at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Our four Year 11 students - No 1 Ryan Laffy, No 2 Harvey MacDonald, No 3 Billy Giannopolous and No 4 Archie Bell played against Preston High and Thornbury High.

Their first match against Preston was a tight contest. After playing 4 singles and 2 doubles matches the scores were 3 rubbers each. When the points were tallied we managed to narrowly win 211 to 198 points.

The second match against Thornbury saw us win 5 tight rubbers to 1. We won 211 points to 176.

Our students then played friendly games against Thornbury’s B team and finished playing mixed friendly singles and doubles games. Their conduct and friendly interaction with all of their opponents was a pleasure to observe. Our team will now progress to the Regional finals on the 7th of August at Coburg Table Tennis Club.

Division Athletics

Well done to our Athletics team who competed in the Divisional Competition as Meadowglen on May 30.  We took a team of 50 students with many team members coming home with ribbons.  All our first-place getters now move through to Regionals which is in September.

Yr 7/8 Netball Selection Tournament

On June 3 we held our very popular Northcote High School Year 7 and 8 Netball Selection tournament at Narrandjeri Stadium.  The day consisted of 150 Students being split into teams to play a round-robin style tournament.  It was a fun day with all students not only playing a high-standard netball tournament but also allowing our staff to select players for our teams who will be competing in the Division Competition later this term.  We couldn’t run these days so smoothly without the help of our wonderful student helpers who umpired and coached the matches throughout the day.
