Foundation Enrolments now open

Friday 6th June - Curriculum Day Student-free day

Monday 9th June - Public Holiday

22nd November 12-5pm - IPS Fair

Welcome to IPS

Always a highlight of the IPS social calendar is the annual IPS Trivia Night put on by the PFA. In consultation with the students and the Junior School Council it was agreed that any money raised through this event would be put toward replacing our old and very heavy portable stage.

I am pleased to report that Trivia Night raised  $6,379.46 which should be  enough money to replace the stage with a lighter, more durable portable stage that the school can use for concerts, open days and graduations etc.

Our new stage will be named after "Marie Morrow" who retired earlier this year and was our music teacher for over 20 years at IPS. A suitably engraved plaque will be attached to the stage once purchased.

Thank you to our sensational PFA, prize doners and volunteers who contributed to this terrific result and a  wonderful evening of fun and laughter.

Safety and Supervision at the beginning of the day

Your Principal team is seeking your help and understanding to address the issue of students racing to be first in line. While we applaud your child's enthusiasm to attend school, this is an accident waiting to happen. In addition, this early morning failure of not being in the number 1 spot in line is leaving some students significantly not ready for learning.

The school gates are opened in the morning at 8.45am as this is when our duty of care begins, and the school day commences. Unless engaged in a sanctioned educational program or an appointment with a teacher, children and parents are respectfully requested not to be on the school grounds before 8.45am.

This includes entry through the school front door and the OSHC gate.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week runs from 27th May to 3rd June.  It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements. It is a time for us to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

This week a focus of our learning has centred around understanding histories, cultures and achievements and strengthening respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Footy Cards at School

Footy cards have become very popular once again in the playground.

Unsurprisingly there have been a lot of problems with trading and cards going missing which has been interrupting learning time and causing distress.

Trading is not allowed under any circumstances and please remind your children to keep their very special cards at home.  We do want children to enjoy pursuing their interests, but if trading does not stop we will be forced to implement a school-wide ban on Footy cards.

Finally

At Ivanhoe PS we are committed to equity, excellence and care. We promote a school culture that values diversity and fosters respectful relationships. From time-to-time issues arise in class or at play that we endeavour to approach in a sensitive and caring manner.

This means we demonstrate respect to our peers, our teachers and our parent community. It is important to remember that children do not have to be friends, but they are expected to be polite. Often students have a strong sense of social justice. While they do not always recognise their role in relational conflict (primarily because they are young) they invariably understand logical consequences and expect them to be applied fairly.

As teachers we actively model and teach appropriate behaviours, using evidence informed, strengths-based approaches, to support students to succeed and be happy at school. We expect students to be active participants in their own learning and behaviour choices.

When playground or friendship issues arise, teachers and staff use a positive behaviour approach to try to affect the best outcome for all students. These processes are proven to be beneficial for students in helping them to develop problem solving strategies and resilience. There is no acceptable excuse for being unkind, teasing or undertaking any bullying behaviour.

We seek your cooperation, and request that you regularly speak with your child about our school values and what they mean and look like. IPS is a great school with a great vibe not by accident but by design. Culture is important and when we work together we get great outcomes.

Thank you for your continued support.
