Melbourne Symphony Orchestra visit to DPW

Monday the 26th of May from 11:40am till 3:10pm

This is a free event for the students at DPW only.

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is excited to be coming to your school as part of

our Jams in Schools program. Together we will learn about a famous piece of

orchestral music, meet six players from the orchestra, play along with the musicians

and even create our own piece of music. We can’t wait to jam with you at your school!

MSO Jams at DPW

When the MSO comes to your school, they won’t bring a conductor. With only 6 musicians playing, the musicians are instead set up as a ‘chamber ensemble’* usually led by the violin player, who uses their bow to lead the musicians in to play. Chamber ensembles use lots of body language and eye contact to communicate while they are playing.

Our ‘Jams Leader’ Karen Kyriakou will also be directing the musicians — and the students! She won’t be conducting though as she will be facing the audience and not the musicians, but she will be using her hands to communicate information about the music to everyone.

About the Orchestra

One of the most exciting things about the orchestra is learning about the different musical

instruments and how each instrument makes their unique sound. The full symphony

orchestra can have between 70–100 musicians, playing around 20–25 different

instruments. The numbers of players and the instruments will vary depending on what

piece is being played.

Teeth on Wheels

This is a friendly reminder that Teeth On Wheels will be visiting our school for dental check-ups starting on June 18th 2025.

Early dental visits are crucial for your child’s long-term oral health. At this visit, Teeth On Wheels will help identify and address common dental concerns, such as:

  • Thumb-sucking– which can affect tooth development.

  • Teeth eruption– ensuring teeth are coming through correctly.

  • Bite issues– preventing misalignments that may cause future problems.

  • Hypoplasia– weakened tooth enamel that can lead to decay.

  • Decay and cavities – catching early signs before they develop into bigger issues.

  • Deep grooves and pits– which can trap food and bacteria, increasing the risk of decay.

  • Gum infections– preventing long-term damage to gums and surrounding tissue.

To ensure your child is part of this visit, please complete the consent form by clicking the link below:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION-

School Saving Bonus

SSB Important Reminder - Please Action if you wish to use any portion of the $400 School Saving Bonus on school activities.

If you wish to use any portion of the $400 SSB on school activities (including excursions or camps) please note that you must go into the SSB Portal and allocate the money to “Activities”. You are not selecting a specific activity at this stage, rather an amount you wish to have available to use at the school. We cannot allocate SSB money to any school activities unless you have reallocated the funds in the SSB Portal beforehand.

This must be done by each individual family using their secure SSB Portal login details. The SSB Portal is integrated with the school system and this allocation is required to allow the school to use the funds on your behalf.

The SSB Portal works in $50 increments.

1. Decide what portion of the original SSB ($400) you wish to use on Uniforms – if any.

2. In the SSB Portal, reallocate the remainder of the $400 to Activities.

3. This will then enable you to use the funds on any school activities in the future.

Please note: Any unspent SSB funds on 1 July 2025 will sit in your Family account indefinitely, the funds rollover for use in future years.

Please note: Uniform purchases can be made up until the end of June 2025. After this date, all unspent SSB funds with remain at school for school activities only.
