Assistant Principal Reports

 Deanne Scott/Joshua Fielding

Hello Everyone,

Attendance - The importance of regular school attendance.

At Deer Park West Primary School, we prioritise regular school attendance. We will work with families to ensure students are in class with their peers and teachers and enjoying all the benefits that brings.

Attending school every day means experiencing what counts – the learning, friendship, fun and opportunities that can shape your child’s future.

We understand that there are times when your child will need to miss school but to ensure minimal disruption to their education, please consider scheduling family holidays or medical/dental appointments outside of school time. If your child is well enough to attend but is worried about friendships, schoolwork or exams, please encourage them to come to school. Avoiding school can make these feelings worse and can create a negative pattern of behaviour.

If your child is having difficulty attending school, talk to their teacher. Should you require further support, please contact myself, Ms Scott, so that I can organise the best person to provide the support that you may need.

We know that parents and carers can be juggling challenges daily to get your children to school. If your child must miss school, notify us as soon as possible via Compass or call to leave a message, so we can work together to support them.

For more information about the importance of everyday attendance, see Attendance and Missing School.

Remember, Every Day Counts.

Education Week: Celebrating Culture Together

This week we celebrated Education Week with the theme ‘Celebrating Cultures’. At our school, we believe that every child’s culture and identity should be valued. When children feel proud of who they are, they learn and grow with confidence.

Many students are posting their learning on Seesaw—a great way to keep families involved and show what we’ve been learning in class. Thank you to all families who have been checking in and leaving encouraging comments.

Foundation (Prep) 2026 Enrolments and Transition

Enrolments for Foundation (Prep) 2026 at Deer Park West Primary School are now open!

Starting school is a big milestone in a child’s life, and we are here to support families every step of the way. At Deer Park West Primary, we are proud to offer a welcoming, inclusive and nurturing environment where every child can learn, grow and thrive.

As we prepare to welcome our 2026 Foundation students, we’re also continuing our strong partnerships with local kindergartens to ensure a smooth and positive transition to school. We’re working with kinder teachers to plan visits, share helpful information, and help children feel confident and excited about starting school.

We’ll be inviting kinder groups to visit our school later this term and into Term 3, giving children the chance to get familiar with our learning spaces and meet some friendly faces.

If you have a child starting school next year, or know someone who does, please contact our school office for more information about the enrolment process. We’re here to help make this transition a positive experience for every child and family.

Term 2 Celebration of Learning

Please note a change to the date for our Term 2 Celebration of Learning. This event will now take place on Tuesday 17 June from 2:30pm to 3:00pm.

This term, students will be proudly sharing their Writing. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to see the progress and effort their children have made, and for students to celebrate their achievements in a meaningful way.

We encourage all families to attend. Please mark the date in your calendars – our students are excited to showcase their learning with you!

Kind regards,
