EARLY STAGE 1

Excursion

Our excursion to Centennial Parklands was filled with excitement and learning. ES1 students participated in a range of hands-on activities to explore and understand living things. We began with a guided nature walk, where students observed native plants, trees, and different habitats. Along the way, we spotted birds, insects, and even some fruit bats!

They examined insects and small creatures in the park’s gardens and wetlands. We also enjoyed a group discussion about the importance of caring for the environment and what living things need to survive. After a picnic lunch, students worked together to make mud maps and build mini shelters for small animals using natural materials. The day ended with a discussion under a shady tree and plenty of time for questions and sharing their best part of the day. The visit provided valuable real-world experiences that deepened our understanding of the life cycles, needs, and habitats of plants and animals.

Gymnastics

This term, our Kindergarten students are participating in a specially designed Gymnastics Program aimed at developing fundamental movement skills, coordination, balance, and confidence in a fun and safe environment.

Program Goals:

• Enhance gross motor skills including running, jumping, climbing, and rolling
• Develop balance and body awareness through activities such as beam walking and balancing exercises
• Improve coordination and spatial awareness with obstacle courses and equipment use
• Encourage teamwork, listening skills, and following instructions
• Build confidence and enjoyment in physical activity

Program Structure:

• Warm-up exercises to prepare bodies for physical activity
• Skill stations featuring equipment such as mats, tunnels, balance beams, and mini trampolines
• Guided activities to practise fundamental gymnastics skills like forward rolls, jumps, and safe landings
• Cool-down and reflection time to promote body mindfulness and relaxation

Safety:

• All equipment is age-appropriate and regularly checked for safety
• Close supervision by teachers and an SLSO ensures a secure environment
• Emphasis on teaching students how to move safely and confidently

Book Week Parade

Book Week day was lots of fun for our Kindergarten classes. Students came to school dressed as their favourite book characters. We saw superheroes, princesses, animals, and many other costumes. Everyone looked fantastic! We listened to stories read by our teachers and special guests. Students enjoyed hearing new books and sharing their favourites with classmates. In the classroom, we made colourful bookmarks and drew pictures of story characters. Some children acted out scenes from books, and everyone had a turn to share about their costume. We visited the school library to look at the book fair display. The purpose of a book fair is to encourage children and families to enjoy and value reading. At a book fair, students can look at and buy books, which helps them get excited about reading and discovering new stories. Book fairs also give families and teachers a chance to find books that match a child’s interests and reading level.
