Foundation Excursion to Carlton Library
On Wednesday 19th August, our Foundation students braved the wet weather and visited the Carlton Library as part of our Inquiry learning about our local community. The children enjoyed exploring the library, learning about the services it provides and discovering how the library is a special place for our community. We had a wonderful time and even received our very own library bag each! Next week, we are off to the fruit shop! Lucky us!
Our budding mathematicians have been busy this week! In Numeracy, Foundation students designed and built their own tin foil boats to explore mass and capacity. They tested their boats by loading them with different objects (small boats can hold less than big boats!) and discovering firsthand how weight affects whether a boat floats or sinks.
In Science, students turned engineers as they built their own catapults. By experimenting with the effort applied and the placement of their platforms over the fulcrum, they discovered how these small changes could send their animal pals flying higher and further. Lots of hands-on learning, trial and error, and fun!
