Book Week/Parade 📚🧙‍♂️

This year the CBCA book week runs from the 22nd of August until the 28th. We will be holding our annual Book Parade on THURSDAY the 27th, next Thursday. The parade will begin at 9.15 am on the bball court. Fingers crossed for good weather.

The students are excited about our wonderful parade and have talked to me (at length!), about the book characters they're coming as. It warms my heart to see their enthusiasm.

As always, there's no pre-requiste re costumes. It's whatever works for your family (and your time constraints). And if your kid/s don't love dressing up they are welcome to come as mugggles, the non-magic humans from the Harry Potter series, i.e. they come dressed as themselves. Sporting heroes can also be a winner and we have many books which feature soccer, netball and footy players.

Currently, I'm reading the 6 shortlisted picture story books (psb), to classes. Each class will be voting on their favourite, which will be revealed, class by class, at the parade. I'll also reveal which book the 'official' judges voted for. (They often get it wrong. The students here nearly alway get it right, in my opinion!)

As always, parents and family members are welcome to stay and enjoy the chaos! There will be photo ops at the end of the shenanigans.

Here's looking forward to another great CNPS book parade!!

Warmest regards,

Kim

Wear It Purple Day (Friday, August 28th)🌈💜

Carlton North Primary School is committed to being safe, inclusive and welcoming for all people in our wonderful community. It's important to work with students to acknowledge, explore and celebrate diverse identities. We aim to foster a safe, respectful and inclusive community by acknowledging and/or celebrating a variety of cultural events that happen throughout the year, as well as by teaching the mandated Respectful Relationships (RR) curriculum.

Wear It Purple Day is happening on Friday, August 28th 2026. Wear It Purple Day is a celebration of diversity and inclusion for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer or Questioning, Asexual (LGBTQIA+) young people. What started as a small movement has grown. However, the message remains the same: Everybody has the right to be proud of who they are. This year’s theme is ‘Colours of Courage’. Courage is not just expressed in big moments, but in everyday choices to live proudly and invite others into understanding, acceptance and celebration.

You can find more information and resources here (www.wearitpurple.org)

Some themed baked goods (including gluten-free) and Minus18 wristbands will be available to buy for a gold coin donation at recess and lunchtime (if not already sold out) to raise money for Minus18, champions for LGBTQIA+ youth. See the Noticeboard page above for more info on baking purple cupcakes!

We are also inviting anyone who would like to support the initiative to wear something purple on the day!

Calling all bakers for “Wear It Purple Day” 🍰💜

On Friday, August 28th, 2026 we will celebrate Wear It Purple Day, which strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people.

We are calling all bakers to make cupcakes and other small baked goods, decorated with a purple theme. Baked goods will be sold during the day (and at assembly if there are leftovers) with proceeds going to a charity, Minus18. Please mark all baked goods with ingredients. We are seeking gluten-free baked goods too!

If you are planning to donate baked goods (or even honey joys in a purple wrapper), please let us know as soon as possible or put your name down in our bakers’ volunteer sheet, here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17tVJh5hLqyamsz1tTQz_aUsk_AvMmWWUBWwENxqb8Xs/edit?usp=sharing

Please bring all baked goods to the office at drop-off (or before recess) on Friday, August, 28th.

Thanks!
