Juniors have been exploring the characteristics and properties of materials through touch and sound. They have compared and contrasted materials such as metal, plastic and wood to identify how these materials are suitable, and selected, for making musical instruments. 

Students gained insight into how Indigenous Peoples of different countries use materials sourced from their local environment to make instruments used in ceremonies and dances. There was much excitement as we explored our immediate environment, using sound to identify materials that objects were made from. We even tried to compose our own music, splitting into an orchestra of wood, metal and plastic!
