Dear BMGS Senior School Community,
As we settle into the rhythm of Term 1, I want to acknowledge the energy and enthusiasm our students have demonstrated in the first few weeks of the school year. It has been a period filled with leadership opportunities, community events, and exciting experiences for our students across all year levels.
One of the highlights of the term so far has been the Student Council Elections. Our students have shown great commitment to the school community by putting themselves forward for leadership positions, delivering compelling speeches, and engaging in a process that fosters responsibility and service.
Congratulations to all students who have been elected to leadership roles – we look forward to seeing you contribute to the ongoing growth and success of our school.
The Year 7 Icebreaker Evening was a fantastic event that brought students, parents, and staff together in a warm and welcoming environment. It was wonderful to see our newest members of the Senior School forming connections and embracing the transition into high school with enthusiasm.
We were privileged to welcome Sula Lule from a school in Uganda as our special guest speaker. Sula shared an inspiring message about resilience, education, and the importance of global connections. His visit was a poignant reminder of the impact we can have beyond our own community, particularly through initiatives such as the 45km Bungawarra Walk. The funds raised from this event will directly support Sula’s school, further strengthening our commitment to service and social responsibility.
Year 8 students returned last week from their camp, brimming with stories of adventure, teamwork, and personal growth. The camp provided students with valuable opportunities to challenge themselves, build resilience, and strengthen friendships. A huge thank you to the staff who supported the students throughout the experience, ensuring it was both safe and rewarding.
Next week, our Year 7 students will embark on their own camp experience, an important milestone in their first year of Senior School. This will be an opportunity for them to develop independence, teamwork, and a deeper sense of belonging within the school community.
Looking ahead to Week 6, our students in Years 7 and 9 will be sitting their NAPLAN assessments. These assessments provide valuable insights into student learning and progress, and we encourage all students to approach them with a positive mindset.
Each year the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is undertaken by students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Students will participate in tests for writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
NAPLAN 2025 will take place from Wednesday 12 March to Monday 24 March.
Please see Schoolbox for more information.
As always, I encourage students to make the most of every opportunity and to seek support when needed. Thank you to our staff, students, and families for your ongoing commitment to our school community.
Best regards,
Alicia Michielsen
