Harmony Day

This week, our school has been buzzing with energy as we’ve celebrated Harmony Week—a time to recognise and embrace the incredible diversity within our community.
Our Open Afternoon today (Thursday) was a wonderful success! It was fantastic to see how our students engaged with the powerful picture storybook The Boy Who Tried to Shrink His Name, using it as inspiration to explore their own heritage, culture, and names.
The home learning projects were creative, thoughtful, and deeply personal, showcasing the unique backgrounds of our students and their families. Thank you to everyone who came along to share in this special afternoon—our classrooms were filled with pride, storytelling, and celebration!
Following the Open Afternoon, our after-school picnic and live music event was an absolute highlight. Despite the rain, families gathered in the quadrangle to enjoy the lively atmosphere, with 'Beat Around the Bush' bringing an incredible energy to the evening. It was a joyful way to come together as a community, celebrating the connections that make SKiPPS such a special place.
And the celebrations aren’t over yet! Tomorrow morning, we have a fantastic lineup of Harmony Week activities to round out the week in style:
☕ Start the day with a treat! From 7:45 – 8:45 AM, families are invited to enjoy fresh coffee and delicious pastries, while talented roaming performers bring a little extra joy to the morning drop-off. It’s the perfect way to start the day—great coffee, great company, and great entertainment!
🌏 From 9:00 – 9:40 AM, we’ll come together for our Harmony Day Assembly—a moment to celebrate the many cultures, languages, and backgrounds that make up our SKiPPS community. Students (and staff!) are encouraged to come dressed in cultural attire or wear a splash of orange, the official colour of Harmony Day, to show their support for inclusivity and respect.
🎨 From 9:50 AM through until lunchtime, the celebrations continue! All students will take part in a series of fun and creative Harmony Day activities around the theme “We All Belong”. Working in multi-age groups, students from Foundation to Year 6 will have the chance to collaborate, create, and connect—learning from and supporting each other in a way that truly reflects the spirit of this special day. It’s always incredible to see older students guiding and encouraging the younger ones, and we know tomorrow will be no exception!
This final day of Harmony Week promises to be a fantastic celebration of everything that makes our school so special. We can’t wait to see you there!
