Principal's message

Dear God,
Thank you for this special time of Lent. Help us to grow closer to You and to understand Your love for us. As we begin this journey, guide us to be kind, to share with others, and to pray more often.
Please give us the strength to make good choices and to remember the sacrifices Jesus made for us. Help us to be more like Him every day.
Amen.
Lent is a special time of the year for Christians. It lasts for 40 days and helps us get ready for Easter, which is the celebration of Jesus rising from the dead. During Lent, we remember the time Jesus spent in the desert, praying and fasting.
Lent is a time to think about how we can be better people. It's a chance to grow closer to God by praying more, helping others, and sometimes giving up something we like, like sweets or video games.
This helps us understand how Jesus made sacrifices for us.
We observe Lent in three main ways-
- Prayer: We talk to God more often and thank Him for all the good things in our lives.
- Fasting: Some people give up certain foods or treats to remember Jesus' sacrifices.
- Almsgiving: We try to help others by being kind, sharing what we have, or doing good deeds.
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.
Our Ash Wednesday liturgies will be held in each area tomorrow, you are welcome to join your child's class for the liturgy.
During the liturgy we receive ashes on their foreheads in the shape of a cross. As the small cross of ashes is made on each person's forehead the leader says, "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
This time is to think about how we can grow closer to God and make good choices during Lent.
The ashes remind us to be humble and to think about how we can be better people. They also remind us that we are all part of God's creation.
The ashes are made by burning the palm leaves from the previous year's Palm Sunday.
Shrove Tuesday
In preparation for Lent we celebrated Shrove Tuesday this morning.
Children enjoyed pancakes whilst contributing a gold coin for Caritas to provide life-changing support to vulnerable communities in need.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program- Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only assessment all Australian students take.
NAPLAN is one aspect of a school's assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but can provide teachers with additional information about students' educational progress. Children in grades 3 and 5 will bring home more detailed information about NAPLAN today.
