Year 11 & 12 VM PDS

Harmony Week Activities  - Y12 VM PDS

Our Harmony Week celebrations were a success, bringing students and staff together to embrace diversity and community spirit. As a part of their applied learning program, our VM students took the lead in planning and delivering a variety of activities across St John’s Primary School on Tuesday, 18th March, and Koo Wee Rup Secondary College on Thursday, 20th March.

Students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of interactive and creative activities, including face and arm painting, hair styling, art murals, origami, Finska, scavenger hunts and a range of food stalls.

The international snack stand, and the delicious curry generously provided by the Sikh Volunteers Australia created a vibrant and festive atmosphere, allowing staff and students to experience and appreciate different cultural flavours. Meanwhile, the bake sale, milkshakes, and BBQ helped raise funds for this incredible organisation, supporting their mission of providing food relief to those in need.

Through our efforts, we raised $1229 for Sikh Volunteers Australia. This contribution will support their ongoing work in delivering meals to vulnerable communities.

These activities provided a meaningful opportunity for our VM students to develop their social awareness, interpersonal skills, teamwork and leadership, all while making a positive impact on the community.

A special thanks to Raelene Darby and Kerrie Thompson for their assistance on the day!

Foodbank Food Fight – Y11 VM PDS

On Monday, 24th March, our Year 11 VM students took the lead in organising a fantastic day of fun and fundraising for our Year 7 cohort.

Periods 2-4 saw students take on a range of inflatable challenges, including an obstacle course, hungry hippos, axe throwing, archery, and bunkers, creating an exciting and energetic atmosphere.

At lunchtime, students enjoyed milkshakes, a BBQ, and the always entertaining slime/pie face challenge, before rounding out the day with the crowd favourite colour run. Students raced through obstacles while being showered with coloured chalk, sprayed with slime from water guns, and pelted with foam fruit, making for a chaotic and messy end to the day!

This event provided a valuable applied learning opportunity for our VM students, allowing them to develop key communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills while delivering an activity that promoted health and wellbeing.

Thanks to their efforts, we raised approximately $1,400 for Foodbank, helping to support their mission in providing food relief to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity across Victoria.

A huge shoutout to Jarryd Palser, Maddy Hollonds, and Alliza Capacete for bravely volunteering to be slimed and pied - your sacrifice was appreciated!
