Year 11 Report
Through the second half of this term the Year 11 cohort have continued to settle into their new VCE and VCE VM routines. Our VCE students have been experiencing their first SACs across most of their subjects, and it has been impressive to see students stepping up to the academic demands that the VCE brings. The Outdoor Education class spent three nights hiking at Wilson’s Prom, and I extend big thank you to Ms. Stokkel, Mr. Close, Ms. Dickson and former student Ben Achterdenbosch who led and supported the students on this experience, and congratulations to all the students for successfully completing the hike. Our Health and Human Development classes have also been enjoying yoga sessions at our local Wellbeing Room this week – it’s great to see them out and gaining these connections with each other and our wider community.
Our VM students have continued to involve themselves in the community by running a day long activity for our Year 7 students last week, which raised money for the Food Bank. They also held their $20 Boss market stalls earlier this week, which saw them plan and create a small business of their own and then run this for the day. Earlier in May, the VM students were lucky enough to attend the F1 Grand Prix for the school’s open day, where we all learned some new things about this amazing sport.
Many of our Year 11 students have been involved in interschool sports this term, and we congratulate them on their successes in this. Excitement is also building for the upcoming Deb Balls, which take place early in Term 2. Students have been taking their Monday afternoon practices very seriously and we are looking forward to seeing them all glammed up and showing off their moves on the dance floor.
Over the last two weeks, we have recognised our Year 11 students who have displayed the college value of “connection” while in their classrooms, with teachers nominating many students across the whole cohort and this being recognised in our end of term assemblies. We have also rewarded those students who have achieved either 100% attendance, or 100% attendance with documentation to support any absences.
I wish all students and families a restful holiday break coming up. VCE students will have holiday homework to complete, so we ask for parental support in ensuring that your child gets this done in a timely fashion. As always, please reach out to the Year 11 team if you have any queries or concerns.
I look forward to seeing everyone back in term 2 to continue the positive start that Year 11s have made this term!
