Athletics Carnival

DCS Primary had a spectacular day of excitement, community, athletic ability and encouragement for our 2025 Primary Athletics Carnival. Thank you to the entire DCS community for your support, encouragement and sense of community during the Primary Athletics Carnival. Here are some highlights from the day:

 

We loved getting all the ribbons - Asha and Clara, Kinder 

I loved running the hurdles because I had to go really fast - Rafael, Prep 

I ran with Mrs McLean and she helped me run really fast - Spencer, Prep 

We loved ALL OF IT! Especially the ribbons - Ellie and Hannah, Prep

The field events were the best. Discus and vortex throwing were our favourites - Freya and Emmie, Year 1/2 

I loved running over the hurdles - Chloe, Year 1/2 

My favourite thing was cheering my sister on in the 400m - Marty, Year 3/4

My highlight was competing in the sack race - Ben, Year 5/6

I loved running the 100m race and also watching Mr O hand out sunscreen for the Year 6's to put on before the tug of war. Their hands stayed really slippery! - Malacai, Year 5/6

Meet Our Team

Year 3/4 

At DCS we have an exceptional team who are here to support our students and partner with each of our families. This week we are introducing you to our Year 3/4 teaching staff and support team. Teleportation is becoming quite a popular superpower. Enjoy finding out a bit more about them! 

Mrs Tamara Davies

I have too many favourite songs to choose from but currently, I'm Not That Girl from the Wicked soundtrack.  

My favourite place to go in Tasmania is Bridport. 

If I could choose a super power it would be to make everyone able to clap on 2 and 4.

I would choose Esther as an Old Testament friend - her courage was incredible.

When I was a child I wanted to be a National Parks ranger because I thought they just rode around on horses all day!

Fun fact: I trained in kickboxing throughout my university days and I still love boxing today.

 

Mr Jesse Dance

When I was a child I wanted to grow up to be a soccer player. 

A fun fact about me is that I am double jointed in 4 places in my body!

My favourite song is Close To You by the Carpenters. 

My favourite place to be in Tasmania is anywhere that has a nice view to look at while walking, like mountains or coastal pathways.

My greatest accomplishment is becoming a father.

If I could choose any super power I would love to have teleportation powers. It would save so much time!

If I could be friends with someone in the Old Testament I would like to be friends with Noah, he must have been a very faithful and patient man.

 

Mrs Dana de Wilzem

My favourite song is The Goodness of Jesus by CityAlight.

My greatest accomplishment is  becoming a teacher.

My favourite place to go in Tasmania is Fortescue Bay.

When I was a child I wanted to be a hairdresser.

If I could choose any superpower I would love to talk to bees because they are amazing, or to be able to have a photographic memory.

If I could be friends with someone in the Old Testament I would be friends with Ruth because of her great faith and loyalty to God.

 

Mrs Rochelle Garwood

My favourite song would be Breathe by Hillsong Worship. 

My greatest accomplishment is my family.

If I could choose any superpower it would be flying, I would love the feeling of soaring in the sky! 

In the Old Testament I would choose to be friends with Daniel, I would love to see his bravery and faithfulness in God. 

When I was a child I wanted to be a princess when I grew up, my other dream job was to be a forensic scientist. I love my new role as a Learning Assistant for DCS. 

 

Mrs Natalie Bourke

My favourite song  is Honestly, We Just Need Jesus

My greatest accomplishment is being a mum and I love going to the East Coast of Tasmania. 

If I could choose any super power, I would choose to be able to click my fingers and have the mess disappear!

If I could be friends with someone in the Old Testament I would choose Esther. She encourages me that God has placed us here for a reason, even though we might not know why. 

 

Mrs Michelle McCloud

My favourite song is Cats in the Cradle and my favourite place in Tasmania is Picnic Point Beach in West Ulverstone. I love anywhere I can see the water.

If I could choose a super power it would be to help people get along together.

I would love to be friends with the women in the Old Testament to hear their life experiences.

My childhood dreams were to become a mother, a teacher or an architect.

My greatest achievement has been fostering for over 20 years.

 

Miss Sumi Van De Merwe

A fun fact about me is that I rode an ostrich when I was 13!

My favourite song is Love of God by Brandon Lake and Phil Wickham and my favourite place in Tasmania is the East Coast. 

If I could choose a super power I would choose teleportation. I love the idea of being able to get to places quickly without having to drive or fly.

I would love to be friends with Daniel to know how he felt while being in the lions den and to learn more about his unwavering faith and trust in God. 

 

Dedication Assembly

This Friday 7th March we invite you to join us as we come together as a school community to dedicate the year to our almighty God.

 

The Dedication Assembly will be held in the Jiloa Centre from 8:40am. Jiloa Cafe will be open and hot drinks are available as we gather, connect, look forward and give thanks in expectation for all 2025 will bring.

 

'Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.'

Community members are invited to join us for morning tea outside the Jiloa Centre after the Dedication Service.

 

2026 Year 7 Information Evening

Year 5 and 6 parents and students are warmly invited to join us for the 2026 Year 7 Information Evening at Devonport Christian School.

 

Date: Tuesday, 18th March 

Location: Jiloa Centre, DCS 

Time: 7:00 PM (arrive from 6:45 PM for a complimentary hot drink)

 

This special evening will showcase our innovative programs that create exceptional learning opportunities for our secondary students. You'll hear from current Year 7 students, staff, and parents about how DCS is redefining secondary education while maintaining our strong learning culture and community focus.

 

As we enter our fourth year of Year 7 at DCS, we’re excited to see our secondary school continue to thrive and we’d love for you to be part of it!

School Photos

School photos are scheduled to be taken on Wednesday 26th March. If you would like to place an order for photos of your child or family group, these are to be placed online. Please find information below on how to order. Please note that the cut-off date for sibling photos is Friday 21st March at 3:00pm. Orders for individual photos can be taken up until the day.

 

For Primary students, full summer uniform is to be worn, including either the blue woollen jumper or navy layered jacket.

 

For Secondary students, formal uniform options and the maroon blazer are to be worn.

 

For both Primary and Secondary students who have PE or sports options on Wednesdays, please come to school in full formal uniform. 

Prep rest days

Our Prep students will continue to have a rest day on the following days: 

Wednesday 12th March

 

Prep students will commence full-time from Monday 17th March 2025.  Please do not hesitate to contact the school office if you have any queries.
