Workshop
The students from both Year 11 and 12 have been busy constructing a few projects for the piggery. The first being an intermediate bulk container (IBC) stand for the canola oil to safely sit on at the mix shed. This will result in easier handling of the buckets of oil for the pig feed mixes, as the tap will be at the correct height and also make the IBC much safer and sturdier. Fabrication of a pig feeder is also underway in the workshop.
Piggery - Miss Davenport
The Grower unit has been working hard this week, keeping up with daily tasks! A huge well done to the students for their dedication and hard work over the past few weeks in completing their practical observations and expanding their knowledge.
Exciting improvements have been made in the porker shed, with the installation of two new heavy-duty wall fans. These will help regulate the ideal temperature for the porkers, therefore enhancing production efficiency. Additionally, the mix-all shed has received brand-new gutters, further improving our facilities.
Looking ahead, we’ll be trialling Alltech Lienerts diets in the Grower unit to optimise our pigs' nutritional intake. This transition includes the introduction of a new diet specifically designed to support weaners through a smooth transition, ensuring better-targeted nutrition during this critical period.
Exciting times ahead - Thank you all for your help.
