Leanne Sjollema

It has been wonderful to see our students returning so positive following the Long Weekend break. Hopefully everyone is feeling well rested and ready for the second half of term. As young adults, our student body have the opportunity to develop and maintain a positive culture that values respect, resilience and responsibility and as I move about the College, I have been impressed with the improvements in student engagement and positive interactions that I am observing. There has been a huge increase in the positive observations being communicated with parents and students from all areas of the College and I would like to congratulate the students on their efforts in this space.

It has also been great to see an increase in the number of students accessing the staff support available during prep to ensure they are keeping up with their studies for Class, Farm and Trades. Students are welcome to self-elect to attend prep in the Library, they just need to ask a teacher to add their name to the list and bring along any work that they wish to focus on.

Late policy

As we are all aware, organising their own time and being punctual are key skills our students need when entering the work force. Staff have observed improvement in the number of students who are getting to sections on time, especially in the mornings, which is great to see.  While acknowledging that being on time is improving here at the College, there are still some issues in this area after breaks. As such, the process for recording lateness, will continue to be as follows:

  • 1-4 mins late will be recorded in the class roll via Compass. If a student is late 3 times in a single week across any section, then they will receive a cumulative demerit for repeatedly showing up late to section

  • 5mins late (or more) will attract an instant demerit and communication will be sent home via Compass

If anyone has any queries about this, or any other processes at the College please reach out.
