Principal's Report

Over the past fortnight, we have had the pleasure of welcoming parents and guardians into our school in various ways. It is always wonderful to share our students' learning journeys with their families.

On Tuesday evening, Keely Watson and Lisa Warland hosted an informative Reading Information Session for our Foundation families. We sincerely thank them and our Learning Specialist, Kelly McLennan, for their efforts in developing and delivering this valuable presentation. It was encouraging to see parents eager to learn how to support their children’s learning at home.

We have also conducted Student Support Group (SSG) meetings, an important opportunity for families and teachers to collaborate and develop tailored plans for students who require additional support. These meetings are vital to ensure every child receives the assistance they need to thrive.

This morning, Kim Carey and I had the privilege of meeting with a group of parents to discuss their highlights and questions about our school, all while enjoying some sweet treats! The goal of this gathering (hopefully the first of many) was to bring together families with a shared focus: the success and well-being of their children. It was a fantastic opportunity to share ideas and aspirations for the school year. Thanks to Meagan, Nic, Lucy, Grace, Tatiana, Adam, Corrina, Kirstin, Ashleigh, Sharon, Dawn, Emma, Leona and Temeika for sharing so willingly this morning. I have made a separate newsletter item with more information about this.

I continue to have families mention the Compass entry about responsibility. I am so pleased it has been so well received. Today, a parent captured my intention clearly. I planted a seed with the students by discussing it at assembly and by sharing it with the families it allows them to reinforce the message at home. Any message to our young people is much more likely to be received if they hear it multiple times from multiple sources.  I urge you to look back and read it if you haven’t seen it already.

Our Foundation students are now attending school full-time and recently experienced their first Wonderful Wednesday—a highlight for many of them! It’s great to see their enthusiasm as they settle into school life.

Recently, we called for nominations for School Council. We are pleased to announce and welcome our new Parent Members: Nic Jurisic, Kirsty Carey, Nick Massey, and Lucy Canham. They join our continuing councillors: Scott Kittelty, Peter Tonkin, Sarah Bennet, and Sarah Ruddick. We sincerely thank them for their commitment to supporting our school community and look forward to working together this year.

Another way parents can get involved is through the Senior Athletics Carnival next Friday. Jason Haire is still seeking assistance. Please see Jason or send an email.

As we look ahead to the rest of the term, I must share that Anthony Tait will be on leave until the end of the term. During this time, I will be stepping into the role of Acting Principal. I appreciate the support of our dedicated team as we continue to ensure all members of our school community are supported, encouraged, and challenged to do their best every day.

Regards,
