St Patrick's Day celebrations

On Monday, St Mary's College came alive with the spirit of St Patrick's Day as students, dressed in their finest green attire, leapt like leprechauns into a lunchtime filled with fun activities celebrating our Irish heritage.

On the College Green, students enjoyed lively music, tried their hand at old-fashioned games, joined in traditional Irish dancing and savoured delicious loaded potatoes from Murphy's Café.

Face painting added a delightful touch of Irish charm, and crochet shamrock keyrings and bookmarks made by students and staff were available for a gold coin donation.

With Irish luck on our side, students dug deep to raise close to $180, with all proceeds going to Caritas Australia's Project Compassion. Thank you to all families for your generous support.

This year's St Patrick's Day festivities are particularly special as St Mary's College celebrates the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the Presentation Sisters. Founded in Cork, Ireland in 1775 by Nano Nagle and three other women, the order has spread worldwide, focusing on education and aiding the poor.

Nano Nagle was a tireless advocate for the voiceless, a beacon of hope for the hopeless, a champion of human rights, a social reformer, an education pioneer and a radiant light in a world often overshadowed by darkness.

As one of the heritage foundation schools of the Nagle Alliance, St Mary's College owes its origins to the Presentation Sisters, who opened the doors to our College in 1868, continuing the mission of Nano Nagle in Hobart.

We have many exciting events planned for our Presentation community this year to honour the rich traditions and values of our Irish ancestors, including Venerable Nano Nagle. As a College, we are deeply grateful for the contributions of the Presentation Sisters, who shaped and united us.

International Women's Day

We proudly celebrated International Women's Day last Friday, where we reflected on the pursuit of rights, equality and empowerment for all girls and women around the world.

At the College, the day also provided the opportunity to recognise and honour the achievements and inspiring journey of all women who shape the future of education, faith and community through their strength, resilience, dedication and passion.

This year’s UN Women theme, 'For all women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment', reminds us that true progress is only possible when every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you to all women in our College community who inspire and uplift others with strength and grace.

Since our humble beginnings in 1868, when a small, enterprising group of women from the Presentation Order founded St Mary's College, our school has been home to courageous, compassionate and curious women. Their determination and pioneering spirit have paved the way for future generations of students.
