Religion and Parish News

God of our journey,

We are all pilgrims of hope.

Brought together by your love and your wish that we may all be one.

We pray that in this Year of Jubilee,

when we are called to greater justice and care for our common home,

that we may Unite Against Poverty.

May we work in unity for the freedom of the oppressed and the renewal of creation.

May our compassionate minds and generous hearts help bring about a world where all can live in peace.

May our Lenten pilgrimage of fasting, almsgiving and prayer bring us closer to your loving heart.

We ask this in the name of Jesus.

Amen

Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday. That means it is also the day before the start of Lent. Shrove Tuesday is also known as ‘Pancake Tuesday’. There were a lot of happy pancake faces at school last Tuesday. Thankyou for your support.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of a special time called Lent in the Church. On this day, we put ashes on our foreheads to show our commitment of faith and humility.

Lent is a time for prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Prayer helps us to get closer to God and remember the promises made at our baptism.

Fasting is where we give something up to show our love for God and to be more aware of those living in poverty.

Almsgiving means to give to others to show we care about justice and are thankful for what God has given us.

Lent gets us ready for Easter, the most important time in the Church. Through prayer, fasting and almsgiving, we remember Jesus’s death and resurrection. Jesus brought the promise of hope to all people so that we may, “have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10). As we live into that fullness, may we come together to unite against poverty with love and hope. Throughout Lent, let us ask ourselves, “What can I do to renew my heart and bring me closer to God who loves me so much?”

Project Compassion boxes were sent home this week with the oldest child. They can be returned  towards the end of Week 10 by placing them in the class office trays.
