Principals Message

Dear parents and carers,

Many years ago the following verse from the Old Testament was very well known by the staff and students of SXG. At some point it went by the wayside and was eventually forgotten.

Micah, a prophet from the 8th Century, speaks on behalf of God calling the people to account for their actions and urging them to return to a life that reflects God’s character. The historical context reveals a society plagued by corruption, exploitation, and a lack of true worship.

The message is as important today as it was then. This passage from Micah links to our Living Well Learning Well Framework and supports our Mission and Vision for a hope-filled future for our beautiful students.

Justice in the context of Micah 6:8 is not merely about legal fairness but encompasses a broader understanding of treating others with respect and dignity. It involves recognising the inherent worth of every individual, especially the vulnerable and marginalized.

Mercy involves compassion and kindness, especially towards those who may have erred or are in need. It is about offering forgiveness and understanding rather than judgment.

Finally, "to walk humbly with thy God" highlights the importance of Humility in our relationship with God and with one another. Humility involves recognizing our limitations, being open to feedback, and valuing the contributions of others. It encourages us to approach our work with a sense of gratitude and dependence on God’s guidance.

You will notice this passage around the school this year as we build on the children’s understanding of it. It’s not easy to follow the simple guidelines of Micah for any of us, but if we try to give them a red hot go every day, we will make a difference.

Kind regards,

Jen
