Visual Arts

Grade 6 have spent some time literally brushing up on their colour mixing skills with this striking colour wheel eye painting project.

Some time was also spent attempting to mix skin tones – a task that was frustrating as well as rewarding.

Grade 5 have been looking at the art of Anya Brock, in particular her kookaburra paintings. Using paint scraping and collage, the birds are slowly taking shape.

Grade 4 have selected from a range of templates to create a flapping Aussie bird. These flew home this week, complete with a straw mechanism that enabled the wings to flap. Here are some that haven’t quite taken off yet...

Grade 3 are currently responding to the artwork of Anna Blatman, in particular, her paintings of birds.

Students first identified recurring characteristics in her work, then set out to create some patterned paper. Here are the first few steps...

Grade 2 a working hard on a slightly tricky reverse painting technique.

Background colour has been laid; stencils of Aussie animals have been traced and we are now working on painting the negative space between the animals white.

Harder than it sounds.

Grade 1 viewed the ever-popular story of Elmer the patchwork elephant. First, we created our colourful Elmer, then filled the background with grey oil pastel. Finally, students collaged some forest foliage around the edges.
