Principal Reflections

Dear Parents and Carers,
All schools have clear statements that communicate their mission, vision and related values. This is created to promote a clear understanding among all stakeholders and foster a sense of unity and purpose. Statements like these also provide a framework for evaluating the school's progress in ensuring that its actions align with its stated goals and projects.
Our Mission states why we exist as a school 'to be committed to improving faith, learning and wellbeing outcomes for students, staff and families'. This statement is shared by many schools across our Armidale Diocese.
Our Vision, 'to be the best versions of ourselves', is what we believe in and what we want to become. Our Catholic Values influence how we will behave and interact with each other in order to achieve this. Please see our Mission, Vision and Catholic Principles and Values as outlined below:
As we move progress through a busy term 1, I want to take a moment to reflect on the vital role you play in our school community. At St Edward's, we firmly believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential for the educational success and wellbeing of every student.
We know that when parents and teachers work together, students thrive. Research consistently shows that parental engagement leads to improved academic outcomes, increased attendance and enhanced social-emotional development. When you are actively involved in your child's education, you send a powerful message that learning matters.
This partnership takes many forms. It might be attending parent, student-teacher conferences, participating in school events, or simply having regular conversations with your child about their school day. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.
At St Ed's, we are committed to fostering open and effective communication in a timely manner. The 'Compass' app is the platform we use to keep you informed about school news, student progress and upcoming events. It is always encouraged for you to reach out to your child's teachers or our administration team whenever you have questions or concerns.
Over the next two weeks you will have an opportunity to visit the school and discuss your child's achievements so far this year. It is so important that your child is present for this discussion so they can hear and support conversations around relating to their learning. During the 3-way conferenceyou may like to ask your child's teacher some additional questions like:
-How does my child interact with their peers in the classroom?
-Are there any specific behaviours or habits that you have noticed that I could support with at home to improve his/her learning outcomes?
-What has been a highlight for you in teaching my child so far this year?
If you haven't already, please use the Compass app to book a suitable appointment. The booking cycle will close on Friday 21st March.
Together, we can create a nurturing and enriching learning environment where every student can reach their full potential. Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to St Edward's School.
Attendance Matters
Education is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier as they are able to build on what was learned the day before. Just one day missed per fortnight equates to one whole year over a child's school life!
Classes start at 8:45am so students should arrive prior to this to ensure they have time to put their bags away and greet their friends. Arriving after the bell disrupts the flow of the class, and important daily reminders and learning opportunities are missed.
Schools, in partnerships with families, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students and for ensuring that non-attendance is addressed effectively. Thank you for prioritising your children’s attendance at school and please do not hesitate to contact us if you require support in this area.
Until next week,
Keep Smiling,
Alison Hatton
