Highlights from Futures, Partnerships and VET

Head of Futures, Partnerships & VET - Lauren Cowburn

In February, we met with the Parent Partnership Panel to discuss the various ways parents can be involved in College life.  We invite our parent community to actively support our students in the following ways:

  • Offer work experience placements
  • Offer School-based Traineeships and Apprenticeships
  • Be a guest speaker for lessons, lunchbox talks or assemblies
  • Invite us to do workplace visits/tours at your businesses.

In the spotlight!

We wanted to celebrate Clara Morris who has recently graduated from TAFE with the MSL20118 Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement and the MSL30122 Certificate III Laboratory Skills.

Clara’s mum states that, “this opportunity has really changed her.  It has boosted Clara’s confidence and helped her to become more independent.  Clara really enjoyed visiting the QUT labs and learning about the various degrees available in this area.  This hands-on experience has inspired her to apply for Biomedical Science at QUT in the future”.  We are so proud of you Clara, congratulations!

Upcoming Events

The College is abuzz with lots of activities for students to get involved in.  Final preparations are in motion for the following Futures, Partnerships and VET events:

3 April 2025 - Tertiary Visit Day

Our Year 10 students will attend either the University of Queensland (UQ), Queensland University of Technology (QUT) or the University of Sunshine Coast (UniSC) to experience aspects of university life.  They will have the chance to rotate through three faculty areas to deepen their understanding of the subjects they will encounter at university.

1 May 2025 - Career Immersion Day

The Career Immersion Day offers students in Year 10 the opportunity to engage with industry experts from a variety of different disciplines to learn about their career journey, increase their awareness of different industries and occupations and help students to deepen their understanding of the future of work.  This experience is aimed to provoke thought by enabling students to investigate an area they may not know much about, inspire them to set goals for their future, and help them to make informed decisions about subject selection.
