INFANTS
Thank you to all our families and friends that were able to join us for our annual Swimming Carnival recently. It was fantastic to see so many people joining in the fun and cheering on the action around the pool. The students all participated in the events in good spirits and encouraged others along the way. When back at school, our younger students made the most of having the school to themselves and enjoyed taking it easy and having fun with each other after the busy morning at the pool.
Our students have been busy preparing artwork for our school display at the Boorowa Show this weekend with Miss Wood. It is looking amazing and we really hope everyone is able to visit the pavilion at the show to check it out. Well done to all our students for their efforts.
There are a number of other events happening in the second half of this term. Please keep an eye out for information regarding our ‘Kickstart Kindy’ program – commencing later this term with School Tours. We also have the Athletics Carnival and Easter Hat Parade coming up before the term is out – so much to look forward to.
Kindergarten
Our Kindy class has been full of action over the past few weeks. It really is amazing to see how quickly our youngest students have settled in and are really in the swing of learning and being a part of our school community. Highlights have included cooking mini cheesecakes with Mrs Corcoran, going on the school bus and learning about bus safety with our local Police Officers as part of the NRMA Bus Safety Program, and going on a ‘Principal Hunt’ to find Mr Jones somewhere in the school. After looking at the playground, canteen, hall and library, we looked in his office where we got a big surprise and laugh to not find Mr Jones, but a llama watching Bluey! We continued on our trek to find him working in the High School instead. Lots of fun for us all!
Yindyamarra
In Yindyamarra, the past few weeks have been very productive for our students.
In Literacy, students have been developing their understanding of nouns and verbs and how to use them correctly within sentences. They applied this knowledge by writing their own versions of the book Our Island, using our beautiful town as inspiration for their “island.” We then explored Under the Southern Cross, where students learned about various places across Australia and the unique celebrations and features of different states. To consolidate their learning, students painted and drew their favourite places represented under the Southern Cross.
In Mathematics, students have been enthusiastically learning their “Friends of Ten” and exploring the properties of shapes.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen (SAK) – Celebrating Seasonal Eating
Our SAK classes have been busy this term, with students creating beautiful dishes that highlight the incredible produce growing right here at school.
So far, our primary students have made:
Puff Pastry Custard Danishes Topped with Plum Jam and Seasonal Fruit, Mini No-Bake Cheesecakes with Mixed Berry and Jelly, Crispy Potato Rosti and Bruschetta
Each recipe has been built around what is currently in season and ready to harvest in our school’s veggie patch: nashi pears, figs, mixed berries (blackberries, raspberries, loganberries and boysenberries), potatoes, tomatoes, and herbs. A key focus of our SAK program is helping students understand the value of seasonal eating. When we cook with produce at its peak, fruit and vegetables are fresher, more flavourful and rich in nutrients. It is also a more affordable and sustainable way to eat.
During our Danish lesson, many students were hesitant to try nashi pear and fig. After tasting small samples, most were pleasantly surprised and chose to add the fruit to their own pastries. Since then, I’ve had several students asking if there is any more fruit left on the trees. Encouraging children to try something new and discovering that they enjoy it, that’s what the program is truly about.
A huge thank you to Mr McDonald, Aaron and our Agriculture students for sowing, growing, weeding, watering and harvesting the amazing produce we have been fortunate to use. The connection between the garden and the kitchen is something very special at BCS, and our primary students are gaining a genuine understanding of where their food comes from.

Cricket
Digby and Patch have had a wonderful week in Sydney representing the Western Region as part of their team at the State Cricket Championships, playing against other students from all over the state. They put in an enormous effort playing a 50 over game of cricket each day and were key players on the team, particularly on the field with many wickets scored. The games were very competitive but played in great spirit and the boys enjoyed getting amongst the fun with their team members, forging great friendships along the way.
Primary
It’s been a busy few weeks in Primary with lots of exciting learning happening! We’ve all started the Heggerty program to develop phonological awareness every morning in our classrooms, and we’re putting a big focus on our literacy routines. The kids are absolutely nailing it, and we couldn’t be more excited to see their progress.
In addition, we’ve been continuing our daily GEM chats as part of The Resilience Project, helping students build important social and emotional skills.
Here are some ways you can include GEM at home with the kids:
