Love of Learning
At LPS, we are continuing to build students’ Super Strengths, and for the next two weeks we are focusing on Love of Learning.
Love of Learning is all about curiosity, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to understand new things. Students who show this strength enjoy exploring ideas, asking questions and challenging themselves to grow. They don’t just learn because they have to - they learn because they want to.
Importantly, Love of Learning helps build confidence and resilience. When students enjoy the process of learning, they are more likely to persist when things get difficult and develop a lifelong passion for growth.
How can parents and carers support Love of Learning at home?
You play a powerful role in nurturing this strength. Here are some simple and effective ways to help:
1. Encourage curiosity When your child asks questions, take the time to explore the answers together. You don’t need to know everything - learning alongside them is just as valuable.
2. Celebrate effort, not just results Praise your child for trying hard, sticking with challenges and improving - not just for getting the “right” answer. This helps them value the learning process.
3. Create opportunities for exploration Provide access to books, games, creative activities or experiences that match your child’s interests. Visits to libraries, museums or even nature walks can spark new learning.
4. Talk about learning in everyday life Involve your child in real-world learning - cooking, budgeting, building or planning trips. These moments show that learning happens everywhere.
5. Model a love of learning Share your own interests and learning experiences. Whether it’s reading, trying a new hobby or solving a problem, showing enthusiasm for learning is contagious.
6. Encourage persistence When your child finds something difficult, support them to keep going. Remind them that mistakes are part of learning and that growth comes with effort.
By working together, we can help our students develop a strong Love of Learning that will support them not only at school, but throughout their lives.
