PRINCIPAL REPORT
The college continues to be a very busy place with our Senior students completing coursework and preparing for end of year exams or pathway investigations, inter school sport and final academic assessments. I would like to share gratitude to all of the staff at the college that continue to go a above and beyond to provide an enriched experience at MESC.
Thank you for the ongoing support our Family and Friends group give our MESC community. They organised and ran a fabulous Father’s Day Event with the renowned SPEAK & SHARE. I know that the attendees got a lot out of the experience. Also, a shout out of gratitude to Bendigo Bank for funding this presentation.
Our new bathrooms look amazing, I am so pleased that the senior students are looking after them and grateful. We are confident Junior bathrooms will be ready to open from the beginning of term 4!
On our recent Curriculum Day staff had the opportunity to look deeply into student opinions from the Department’s Attitude to School Survey. We asked teams of teachers to write down 5 questions they would like to ask each year level about the responses they had given. The School Improvement Team, including Principal Team ran focus groups to seek clarifications and specific feedback about what their learning experience in the classroom. We began to evaluate this information through the lens of our E5 Instructional Model and Science of Learning.
Key take aways
- Relationships
- Consistent routines at the beginning of each lesson are important
- Teachers to be mindful how long they are talking for
- Authentic learning experiences
- Be specific about feedback and its many forms
- Build knowledge and understand about how memory and learning can be most effective
Students have been honest, insightful and fair in telling their teachers and leaders where improvement needs to take place. I am pleased to report however, that we have outperformed Network and Similar Schools in most measures of the survey.
*Similar Schools are schools with the same Socio Economic and Family Education level as Mount Eliza.
I wish our Year 12 students all the best in their final weeks of being a MESC student and look forward to celebrating next term. I know some of you will continue to study through the break- make sure you have balance and enjoy some sun, outdoors, friends and family.
I hope that everyone has a great break- I know there are many young people and staff that are in need of a rest – ready to tackle the home straight of 2024! Good luck for those of you still in the running to be in the AFL Grand Final!
