We believe that valuing community relationships is important. Building a school community enhances learning outcomes and supports collaboration and wellbeing for the entire school. By working together we can provide learning opportunities that are social, collaborative, personalised and participatory.
School communities are a powerful way to build a sense of connectedness and belonging.
Having these conversations with our children, in a language they can understand, and constantly reinforcing the values of respect, getting along and valuing acceptance will go along way in sending the right messages for the younger generation.
The spell of sunshine we have enjoyed over the week has been delightful. The grounds are drying out and there are more opportunities for lessons to be taken outside.
The PFA are working hard to make sure the coming Father's Day Breakfast and Stall are successful. The staff are leading the charge with the Walk-a-thon and Book week preparations. The junior school athletics date will be announced soon. There are Camps later this term. Junior School Council will meet to discuss a "Mural" project.
Our Orchestra is playing at assembly this Monday and there is a Working Bee this Saturday.
Planting this Saturday at the Working Bee
Last year, a group student as part of a literacy exercise wrote to Banyule City Council resulting in the donation of 200 trees / shrubs . grasses and these will arrive tomorrow in time for this Saturday's Working Bee. Please bring your child to the Working Bee to do some planting - House Points for students who attend with an adult. Thank you to Paul Moreland (parent of Ged 5L) for coordinating this activity and Mr Bull for organising the Working Bee. Mrs Wright and I will be there to provide the BBQ sausages.
This year’s major fundraising event for IPS will be the House Walkathon on Thursday the 5th of September 2024. Following the morning in the classroom the students will enjoy an early lunch with fellow house members with the walkathon commencing at 1pm and concluding at 2.30pm.
Students are asked to wear house colours rather than school uniform on this day. Students are encouraged to carry a water bottle throughout the event, apply sunscreen and, if necessary, wear a hat.
Three courses will be marked out in the immediate school vicinity and supervised by teachers and parents on the day of the Walkathon. A shorter lap for the Foundation/2- approximately 250m, Grade 2/3 approximately 350m, Grade 4 – 6 approximately 900m. This year we are using electronic lap counting; this will give parents and carers more opportunity to walk with students.
The Walkathon is both a fundraiser and the promotion of an active lifestyle through walking. It also complements our active ride and walk to school programs.
Within each grade points will be awarded based on the amount raised by each House. Gold medals will be awarded for ‘Most laps’ in each grade level, and prizes awarded for ‘Most funds raised’.
School council agreed that funds raised (along with a donation from the PFA) will purchase:
The play activities incorporate some colorful playground designs which can help improve students' literacy, numeracy, motor skills and physical activity. Our school playground will be decorated with long lasting, vibrant Edumarkings using a unique thermoplastic material that lasts for years.
Keep your eyes peeled for more details that will be published shortly in the newsletter, ClassDojo and COMPASS.
Keeping our school environment in good working order is no mean feat! For many years, Leo has been the fixer and mender of anything you can imagine at school. This weekend Leo, our maintenance officer celebrates his 70th birthday!
Our staff wanted to celebrate this milestone and surprised Leo with a birthday cake and present at lunch on Wedensday.
Happy 70th Birthday Leo! Hip Hip Hurray!
Thursday mornings see our choir get up and practice bright and early. Jenette and Margaret do a wonderful job organising and leading the chorists.
This is another example of how our students demonstrate our school values. They show persistence, respect, resilience, confidence and indepence by arriving on time, practising hard, not giving up, working together as a team and turning up each week, even when at times, the weather at 8am has been bleak!
Our Corelli Strings group performed two pieces at assembly on Monday morning. As usual, they performed exceptionally well, entertained and impressed the whole school!
Next week the orchestra will be performing at assembly. If you have time, why not join the audience?
Basically, we need your help. You can email the PFA coordinators directly. their details are in the posters below.
