Junior Years
The Junior Years team have been working hard this term, exploring lots of different learning opportunities. Half the team has just finished up their swimming program for the term, while the other half of the team are just embarking on their program. Mary, our wonderful swim teacher, provides an engaging and important life skill for our students and we thank her for the time and effort she puts in to ensure our Junior Years students are safe in the pool.
The Science Week activity for the Junior Years this year had a focus on animals and habitats. The students spent time exploring what a habitat is and watching videos about different animals. We crafted our own echidnas out of paper plates and had discussions around what sort of habitat an echidna would have.
A few weeks ago some of our students had the opportunity to visit the Disability Theatre Sensorium 'Wonderbox' experience. There, every child’s curiosity is celebrated and rewarded with wondrous surprises. The discovery is the journey. As boxes reveal boxes within boxes each child is given the opportunity to find a magical version of themselves. Inside the Wonderbox, micro-moments of whole worlds in a matchbox lead into macro universes where everyone, their face reflected in the stars of the Milky Way, is revealed as wonderful! Both staff and students thoroughly enjoyed this experience, thank you to Jacqui Chalmers for your organisation of this excursion. Be sure to check out the photos from this excursion, the delight on the students' faces is infectious!
Book Week 2024 was a huge hit across the Junior Years PLC. The students really embraced the 'Reading is Magic' theme this year and we had lots of fantastic costumes. The parade was a lovely way for the students to show their connection to reading and their favourite stories.
We hope our dads and special people have a wonderful Father's Day and are able to spend some quality time on the bbq or the golf course to celebrate!
Staff are currently collecting data to help inform the IEP's going forward. SSG meetings are taking place in week 9 and are a fantastic opportunity for teachers and parents to collaborate and identify goals for each student. We look forward to meeting with you.
