Principal Report
It has been an exciting and busy time at Oatlands, with our students engaging in a range of enriching activities. Here’s a roundup of some of the fantastic things that have been happening around our school.
Friendology Program – Grade 5
Our Grade 5 students have been participating in the Friendology Program with Holly our School Psychologist. Friendology is all about teaching our students how to navigate the ups and downs of friendships. Through this program, our Grade 5 students have been learning valuable skills to help them manage "friendship fires," maintain positive relationships, and be good friends. It’s been wonderful to see the students grow in their understanding of what it means to be a supportive and empathetic friend.
District Athletics – Grades 3 to 6
Our Grades 3 to 6 students represented Oatlands with pride at the district athletics competition, achieving outstanding results. Out of all the schools that attended, Oatlands came FIRST! Congratulations to all the students who participated for your hard work and dedication. You should be very proud of your efforts on the day!
Chess Tournament
Oatlands was also represented by 33 of our Prep to Grade 6 students at a recent chess tournament. Our chess players were fantastic, with some even earning medals for their performances. Whether they won a medal or not, all our students displayed great sportsmanship and strategic thinking. Well done, Oatlands chess team!
RoboCup Competition
The RoboCup competition was another highlight, where our students got hands-on with technology by creating robots that followed sequences. It was a fantastic experience for all involved, as they not only learned about robotics but also had a lot of fun along the way. The creativity and teamwork on display were truly impressive.
National Day of Action Against Bullying
Last week, our Junior School Council united our school for the National Day of Action Against Bullying, which was a powerful reminder of the importance of kindness and inclusivity. The sea of hearts displayed during our assembly was a beautiful symbol of our commitment to stand together as a community against bullying. It was heartening to see our students embody the values of respect and empathy throughout the day.
Wellbeing Space
During Term 3, grades have been visiting our new, yet-to-be-named Wellbeing Space! Students have been exploring sensory activities, practicing mindfulness, and learning to self-regulate to the Green Zone. This dedicated space has been a wonderful addition to our school, providing students with the tools to manage their emotions and develop a sense of calm. At the end of the term, classes will have the opportunity to suggest names for this special room, and we look forward to making a collective decision that reflects its purpose and significance.
Book Week
Book Week has once again been a hit this year, filled with creativity and a love for reading. Our students participated in a variety of activities, including reading stories, becoming authors and illustrators, and even experiencing visits from real-life authors. The excitement was palpable as students explored the magic of books and shared their own stories with each other. It’s been an inspiring week that highlighted the power of reading and imagination.
Thank you to all the students, staff, and families for your ongoing support and involvement in these events. It’s through our combined efforts that Oatlands continues to be a vibrant and nurturing place for our students to learn and grow.
Kind Regards,
Michelle White
