Term 3, Week 6 - Sunday 25th August, 2024
Dear Families of OLSC
That's a wrap for Book Week 2024 and another very successful Book Fair. Thanks to all of the families for the effort they went to for costumes and for supporting the Book Fair. This year's sales went beyond expectations.
The Parents and Friends Group have planned an opportunity for the adults in the community to gather. On Friday September 6th we will host a Trivia Night. This is the first adults event that has been planned since the end of the pandemic.
Welcome to the world Henry Dean Taylor. On Saturday 22nd August at 1:47am Sam and Ben welcomed their first child. All are well and ecstatic to welcome Henry. OLSC staff can't wait to meet him.
On 16th August many of our students from Year 6 celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation. I congratulate them all and thank John and the staff from 5/6 for preparing the students so well for this major milestone. Confirmation deepens our commitment and solidifies one's relationship Church.
The transformation of the Sports Centre to a sacred space was magnificent and exceeded what any of us would have expected - well done John.
As the weather continues to challenge us with the icy temperatures please look after yourselves and remember to be vigilant about monitoring your child is unwell. Unfortunately we have had some instances of students being sent to school when unwell. The office has required to make calls and have these students collected.
A reminder that, this year, we're holding a Great Book Swap to support the Indigenous
Literacy Foundation (ILF) in providing books and learning resources to children living in remote communities across Australia.
From now until Friday 30th August, students are invited to bring pre-loved children's books (picture books, graphic novels or children's novels) in good condition that they no longer want at home. Each student can bring up to 5 books. A big thanks to the families who have already donated, we are beginning a great collection of books.
On Wednesday 4th September, bring a gold coin to school to buy a pre-loved book to take home from The Great Book Swap. If you can help set up the book swap on Tuesday 3rd September or help with the sale of books on Wednesday 4th September, please email me at kmorrissey@olscwyn.catholic.edu.au
If you would like to donate to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, please click on this link to visit our school's ILF page: https://edu.greatbookswap.org.au/olscgreatbookswap
On Thursday morning, our school hall was filled with excitement and colour as we held our annual Book Week parade. It was wonderful to see so many families join us in the festivities, it is safe to say that everyone had a fantastic time celebrating their love of books and reading. Our staff all got in the spirit of dressing up too and there were some very cheery characters but also some who were a little spooky.
The teachers chose three students from each year level as the most creatively dressed award winners - Congratulations to them all!!
The OLSC staff really rose to the occasion!
There are only 15 days to go until the end of this year's Premiers' Reading Challenge! So many of our students are so close to completing the challenge so make the most of these last two weeks. Congratulations to those who have already successfully completed the challenge.
Tomorrow is the first day of our Swimming Program. The 5/6 students will be attending King Swim each afternoon for the next two weeks.
Unfortunately we had someone from the community jump the side fence on Academy
Way and steal a student's bike from behind our locked gates. We do have footage of the person and he is not known to us. If your child is riding a bike or scooter to school please send along a lock as-well. There was one very sad OLSC student on Friday which was very disappointing for us all.
Thanks everyone for your continued support of our school. At the bottom of the page there are a couple of fliers containing information on sporting opportunities in our local community.
Justin and all of the staff at OLSC
