Literacy
Students reconnected with their 5/6 buddies this week! They read their reader to them and then chose a book to share together. It was lovely to see how happy all the students were together.
We have new letter sounds; we now know all 5 vowels:
Numeracy
This week in mathematics we are exploring statistics and ways to pose and answer investigative questions about our favourites by gathering and analysing data and discussing the results. One of our activities involved the class investigating our favourite type of fruit.
Outdoor Play-Based Learning (PBL)
Our loose parts have arrived and are being used in many ways, as students begin to bravely explore the possibilities. We have moved PBL to Tuesday and Wednesday mornings so that we can access our loose parts without disrupting gardening classes. This also offers students the potential to continue investigating and expanding their play on consecutive days.
Here are some pics and insights during PBL this week:
"We are the chocolate makers. We’re making chocolate with our buddies. We need more cocoa and hot water.
No, we need hot milk. The water is the hot milk, and we need more over here. We have to dry it out in the sun and then it will be chocolate." - Edie Tegan grace Matilda rune & Lenny
"This says garrrrr…..and this says lic….garlic! Oh yeah!" Morgan & Nattai
"Look! We made a cake. Do you want to see Gracie’s potion? Come see, look it’s so big!" Nour
"Percy, how did you make your paper aeroplane better? Put the paper clip here (in the middle)" – Sitara & Percy
"Hey, this could be a wheel! It’s very round. It could be a car! It’s really bouncy. Oh no, how can we get it round again? We can roll it this way and try…" Rune & Lenny
"I’ve built it this way so it can deliver. This balances and stays when it’s flying. It can carry a marble and deliver it. The fluff from the wool is helping the stick not fall." - Dorian
"Juliette, I made a kite! It’s windy so it should fly." Percy
"I’m trying to work out how to get this to balance and not fall over..."- Morgan
"We got some flowers to attract it (the butterfly) and now it’s sipping the nectar from it. Let’s watch and see what happens." - Izzy & Lenny
Warmly
