Exciting Paralympics News!

Annabelle Colman, was a student at Croxton / Thornbury PS for grade 5 & 6, 2015 and 2016. She will be competing as a track athlete in the 1500m, T20 (intellectual impairment) category on Fri Sept 6th.

Her parents wrote:

"...We are super proud of her as she has worked very hard over a number of years to qualify for this event.

When she was at Croxton, she had many opportunities to participate in sport, including basketball, outdoor ed camps and a triathlon. Through these opportunities she went on to develop self-confidence, a love of running and competition!!!

So, thank you so much for introducing and encouraging her in these endeavours- it has been a journey of great friendships, travel, fitness and fun. We are very grateful to the school for opening this world for her."

P.E. with Leigh

This term the school has been bustling with energy with our 5/6 students participating in the Gala Sports, including Newcombe, Spikeball, and Ultimate Frisbee. The day was filled with enthusiasm, with Thornbury students showcasing strong performances, particularly in Newcombe and Ultimate Frisbee. Spikeball, also known as Roundball, posed a challenge but quickly became a favourite for those who mastered the skills on the nets.

Basketball has continued to thrive, thanks to Keith’s coaching. It was fantastic to see our younger 3/4s and 5/6s compete against Fitzroy Community School during lunch breaks. Over the years, both schools have fostered a strong relationship through these friendly basketball matches.

We've also introduced a few new games inspired by the Olympics, such as handball and its variations. This year saw a vibrant interest in athletics, particularly in running and jumping events. Meanwhile, our younger students have been building their fitness through running and tag games, with a strong focus on cooperative play in the 1/2s and 3/4s.

For families considering sports for Grade 3/4 children, I recommend looking into Lacrosse at the Brunswick Club and Aussie Rules at Fitzroy Football Club. Both clubs offer excellent coaching. Additionally, the Darebin Falcons have a fantastic program for young girls interested in soccer.

As we approach the end of Term 3, we’re excited about the upcoming relocation of the P.E. shed, marking the beginning of our school's redevelopment. I can't wait to see the new facilities and playing areas.

Finally, mark your calendars for the Fun Run in November!  We’re looking forward to seeing all the children participate and support our school’s fundraising efforts as we progress with our development plans.

Thank you, Leigh
