Principal's Report

Dear Skye Families

Father's Day Breakfast

We were thrilled to host our annual Father’s Day Breakfast this morning, and what a turnout! Over 400 egg and bacon rolls were served up to a crowd of happy dads, special guests, and excited students. A big thank you to all the dads and special people who took the time to join us. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the efforts of our PTF and Skye PS team. Thank you.

Book Week Celebrations

Last Wednesday, we celebrated Book Week 2024 in Skye style with a spectacular parade in the Gym, showing off some serious creativity and expression. Our students embraced the theme 'Reading is Magic,' and their costumes were a testament to that. It was great to see so many families in attendance, turning the event into a fantastic community celebration.

Year 3 Camp

This week, I had the pleasure of joining our Year 3 students at Golden Valleys Adventure Camp in Flinders. What a stunning location—rolling hills, kangaroos everywhere, and the perfect backdrop for adventure. For many of our students, this was their first extended time away from home, and they tackled it with energy and enthusiasm. They showed impressive resilience, whether it was climbing to the top of the vertical wall, swinging on the giant swing, or simply enduring some challenging weather.

Whole School Concert: Dreamweaver

We’re just under two weeks away from our Whole School Concert, Dreamweaver! If you haven’t secured your tickets yet, now’s the time as there are less than 100 spots remaining. Follow this link to grab your seats. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic evening, and we can’t wait to see you there.

Gymnastics Achievements

A huge congratulations to our students who represented Skye Primary in the Primary School Interschool Gymnastics Competition this week. Our Year 5 team brought home the GOLD, while our two Year 6 teams came in 4th and 7th, respectively. Well done girls!

Hats On!

As the weather warms up, we want to remind everyone that it’s now a requirement for all students to bring a wide-brimmed, school-approved sun hat each day. Teachers will be keeping an eye out during playtime, and any student without a hat will need to sit in the shade within the 'Sails' area. We also encourage students to apply sunscreen each morning and bring some along to reapply throughout the day.

Parent Opinion Survey (Extended until 20th September)

A friendly reminder that the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is open, and we’d love to hear from you! This is a great opportunity for you to share your thoughts on how things are going at Skye Primary. The feedback we receive helps us understand what’s working well and where we might need to put a bit more focus. Whether it’s about school climate, student behaviour, or engagement, your input is incredibly valuable.  If you haven't responded yet, please see the recent and upcoming Sentral communication which contains the survey link and PIN.

Ballarto Road Upgrade

The upgraded intersection at Ballarto Road and McCormicks Road will be reopened today (Friday 30 August). There will be minor ongoing works around the area over the next few weeks and there will be traffic management in place. A quick reminder also about the next stage of works for the Ballarto Road Upgrade. Starting Thursday, 5th September, the eastbound lane on Ballarto Road will be closed between our staff car park and just east of Potts Road. Potts Road itself will also be closed at the Ballarto Road intersection. The westbound lane on Ballarto Road will remain open, so access to Skye Primary School is still available, but drivers can only turn right when exiting the car parks. The intersection upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

Have a great fortnight.

Warm regards,

Tim
