The Next Fortnight of Learning

Literacy

Over the next two weeks the Grade 5’s will begin learning about Fables with a focus on identifying the key features and the structure of Fable texts. Students will read different fables, discovering the moral and life lesson in each.

As part of this unit students will learn about Synthesising. Synthesising helps us gain a deeper understanding of the texts we are reading and often our ideas and understanding of texts change before, during and after reading.

In Writing, students will begin creating their own fable texts ensuring they followed the agreed feature and structures.

Book Week Parade!

Maths

Over the next fortnight we will continue learning about division. Students will be encouraged to use a variety of strategies to solve problems ensuring they show their working out. We will be learning about fact families and the link between multiplication and division and addition and subtraction and how this can assist in solving problems.

As part of our maths learning we will also be exploring angles. Students will practice naming angles; such as obtuse, acute, straight, right and reflex. They will also begin learning how to measure angles accurately using a protractor.

Inquiry

In Inquiry students will begin working collaboratively to create a presentation on their learning about the Solar System. They will work with a group to create a short 10 question quiz on the topics we have been learning about so far in this unit. The quiz will then be shared with some Year students to test their knowledge on the solar system!

Wellbeing

This term as part of our Wellbeing learning students will be exploring the following topics:

  • Gender and Identity
  • Help Seeking
  • Positive and negative emotions
  • Recognising mixed emotions

Bullying no Way! - Everyone Belongs

On Thursday the 15th of August, we were very fortunate to have a special performance from Brainstorm Productions, titled 'Sticks and Stones'. The hour long show was enjoyed by all 5/6 students and contained many important messages about the importance of controlling our emotions and what do to in a situation where you feel unsafe.
