Reading
Students will learn how adverb and prepositional phrase provide circumstantial details.
Writing- Sentence-level
We will learn how to write a non-fiction conclusion paragraph. The students will use their knowledge of general, specific and thesis statements to construct this paragraph.
Writing- Text-level
Continue to write a persuasive introduction to one of their issues. Students will then move into building the body of the persuasive paragraphs using the structure of TEEL.
Maths
Students have been using their multiplicative thinking to generate number sequences and recognising emerging patterns. Through this the students created flow charts to represent the halving strategy (division) to assist them in creating a visual representation of the steps involved.
Next week our Grade 4's will be designing investigation questions, collecting data and learning to use a variety of graphs to display their information. They will note which graphs are the most efficient to create and display this information in addition to utilising the graphing functions within Microsoft Word.
Inquiry
The Grade 4 students have made an excellent start on our new Inquiry topic ‘Types of Forces’. The students completed a pre-test on the different types of forces that they may encounter in their everyday lives, as well as a ‘Types of Forces’ glossary crossword that they completed in pairs which provided great exposure to the various types of vocabulary words associated with this unit of work. Over the next fortnight students will be experimenting with magnetic force as they design a maze that a paper clip can move through, as well as conducting various experiments in small groups that looks at wind power and friction. The final part of the unit will require students to develop a presentation in small groups to bring all the learning together.
Wellbeing
Our Wellbeing program continues to incorporate the work completed from our Berry Street program to support students’ self-regulation, relationships and wellbeing at school. This in conjunction with the School Wide Positive Behaviours has been an important focus. Over the next fortnight, the four R’s that being our ‘resilience, rights, and respectful relationships’ program, will continue our work on gender identities, gender norms and positive gender relations. The students will investigate gender roles in children’s media and will be given positive opportunities to challenge gender stereotypes in creative ways.
